The man most were very impressed with during summer league, including me. Here is the latest update on him:

Should the Rockets seriously consider adding him to our roster this year ?

I think they should go after him and make some room by trading Head and maybe Rafer or Wafer. He was a great decision maker, good shooter and looked very confident on the court. He knew what to do and was very strong with the ball.

I loved him in the summer leagues....I would rather they have this guy than Von Nobody.

I'd rather have us add Deke than him.

I dont think most of us expect him to get to 45% 3pt shooting or anything. We just want him to return to last season's form when he was hitting those critical 3s and finishing at the rim.

Remember the game against the Lakers when he hit 7 3pters?

What was so impressive about his summer league appearances besides the fact that he didn't look like a deer in the headlights? He did nothing to stand out.

Yes he did, he was very consistent in making the right plays, right passes, had a nice shooting touch. He didn't do much wrong either and played nice D. Maybe to standard people like you, who also think Landry is out of shape now because he doesn't dunk that much, he wasn't impressive. I think when you would see him at PG playing for the Rockets instead of Rafer, you would see the difference.

John Lucas always looked good in the summer league and he just got cut and will never be more than a marginal NBA player. Barrera is going to have to prove himself in Europe before he can play in the NBA.

I was impressed by him in the SL. I think he has a good pg talent. His playmaking is great! The rockets should give him a chance. In fact, it also gives ourselves a chance.

Waive Wafer or Francis to sign this guy!

What I read in an uruguayan site (and posted somewhere here) is that his manager was waiting for the Rockets to cut Francis, to make room for him. This was about three weeks ago.

However, this week I read that he was being scouted by Maccabi Tel Aviv. Their chief scout, who happens to be an uruguayan living in Israel, named Daniel Gutt, came to the country and saw him play in two matches.

If I find out something else, I will let you know.

Its summer league folks! JL3 was a MVP one year and now hes out of the league. Performances in the SL should be taken with a grain of salt. Look at where Donte Green and his 40 points got him. He was traded to the Kings and have yet to play one game on a team that is rebuilding. I was rather stick with our current PG situation then to sign some very unproven point guard.

We're talking about summer league! Kelvin Cato would look like Hakeem in the summer leagues. Steve Francis on one leg would be putting up numbers from his younger days in the SL.

Thanks for adding some sanity to this discussion. Barrera was very impressive to some CF members. Too bad not a single GM thought so.

In general, a good performance in SL is essential but not sufficient to be a good player in nba. If a player cannot play well in SL, he won't be a good nba player either. Of course, if he can play well in SL, it doesn't mean he can be a good nba player. But, at least, it means he has potential to be a good player. Lucas didn't become a good nba player. However, many players who had good performance in SL became good nba players. The rockets should give Barrera a chance!

I agree Summer league doesn't say much but it was not like he put up huge numbers. You could just see he was able to hit a shot, made good decisions, good passes, played good defense and was better than Brooks, which doesn't say much but still. Barrera did what a PG should do and looked like an all-round player and every time he came in, something good happened.
