"A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

That's exactly what the constitution says. So according to the constitution, militias are legal. It says nothing about having the right to own a freakin uzi or any other semi-automatic weapon.

I'm not totally against guns. I think they do serve a purpose. Do uzis or semi-automatics? No, I don't think so. What we should do is destroy every confiscated semi-automatic/automatic weapon. The gun companies should begin manufacturing guns that can only work under fingerprint scanning. If a gun is stolen, it can't work. Guns aren't all bad. But if they were harder to get, Columbine and tragedies like that would have never happened.

    I've yet to hear of a mass-stabbing.

I guess it depends on how many deaths you have to have at one time to be considered a "mass stabbing". Some instances that have been considered "mass shootings" (such as Paducah, Ky) have actually had fewer deaths than some single stabbing instances. It's all up to the definition, I suppose.

And there is always the chance that mass killers will move to less-sophisticated means to kill a large number of people. The Oklahoma City thing was a feritlizer bomb.

Or there is the matter that people can get guns legally and then decide to kill a large group of people. It's not always a person with a previous history who engages in these mass killings (as a matter of fact, it is often the case that mass killers do not have previous criminal histories that would preclude their legally owning guns).

I'm all for reasonable restrictions of guns myself, but even non-gun murders and other crimes are considerably higher in the U.S. than in other Western Nations. We can't assume that access to guns is the problem and that by regulating guns we can end (or curtail significantly) the problem of violence in our society.

I don't even know where to start.

I disagree with just about every point(copied directly from the NRA website?). I will post a better reply when I'm done watching the debates.

I don't see how this applies to a democracy. Are you suggesting that, instead of voting ineffective leaders out of office, we simply shoot them?

Not sure that would go over very well...
