Good morning guys, hope everyone is doing well. Well, to get right to the point. My wife and I bought a 2007 Ford Edge on Saturday, and have to say its a really nice car. This morning I wake up bc my brother is telling me that I am missing the back tire on my car. I told him, the spare is inside the car. He tells me, no, all the tires are missing. I didn't believe him until my mom tells me that the car is on blocks. I go out there, and sure enough, some jackass punks stole my tires. So, any advice on what to do. Perhaps my car is still covered under a limited warranty? The insurance company has already been called, I have triple AAA. A police report has been filed....anything else to help the situation or advice. Thanks in advance... Tim
it's not a warranty related issue. you got jacked. call your insurance company and pray you purchased coverage for theft. if you didn't, it's going to come out of your pockets. did they steal the tires or the rims + tires? doesn't make much sense to just steal tires.....
if you want to replace them with the same rims and insurance is not going to cover it. i suggest going to the little mom and pop shops that sell rims. if they have them, they'll be cheaper than purchasing them new from the dealership. i guess it really depends on what type of rims you had. for example, on one of my vehicles the dealership charges over $500 per rim....if i was in your situation, i definitely wouldn't purchase stock rims @ $500 each. if you do, there's a chance they'll get stolen again. if you have a garage, keep your vehicle in the garage next time/
I don't know the technicals about the insurance nor warranty but I can assure you the po'-po' aint gonna do nothing about it. Maybe your insurance or warranty would help out.
Northshore, actually guys, they were stock rims and tires. They were 17's, not hudcaps or nothing, but damn, they were stock.
Warranties don't cover theft, unfortunately. I wouldn't buy used tires or rims either. Would you wear a busted up pair of Converse All-Stars with a new suit? Not only that, they might be warped and screw up your car. You will probably just have to bite the bullet and buy new tires and rims. You can also buy special nuts that require a key to get off. Should be enough deterrent to make the thieves go to the next car.
You take the whole wheel with you. You can't just steal tires on the spot. hey tim, when you buy your new wheels, buy wheel locks too - they're different lug nuts that take the place of one of your regular lug nuts. You put one on each tire, and you have to use the special lug key that comes with it to get your tires off. It makes it sort of a pain in the butt when you actually have to do something with your tires, but your car won't end up on blocks again!
I feel your pain man. About 5 years back when I was leaving work for lunch I discovered that someone had stolen one of my tires. The tire and the rim. Just that one. They left it in the parking lot at work leaning on that one axle. I was in total shock. It was an eclipse GT with all the trimmings and I had only bought it maybe 3 months before. Of course I got teased for the next 2 years from my friends about the fact that someone stole 1 tire. Anyway I used it as an excuse to buy a whole new set of rims and it made the car look even nicer. Hit up www.discounttire.com and put a nice set of rims on that new car.
take it back old school... (by old school i mean early 90's ) get some 14" daytons w/ white wall bubble tires.
Yeah, I have these on my tires. When I went to get them rotated the tire place was looking all over for the key.
Leave the doors unlocked tonight and in a few days you can purchase a new car with the insurance check. This time be more careful. I'm kidding! How much is your deductible? It would suck if you had to shell out more than the insurance company for your new tires and rims.
Yeah, I had a flat tire on my mom's car, and I didn't know she had them on her car. So after trying and trying with nothing happening, I called them and started freaking out. They laughed and told me about the wheel locks.
