I got this game yesterday and played it for a couple of hours. I'm surprised how much this game feels like the console versions of GTA. Sometimes the camera angle is kinda screwy and the targeting system isn't so great, but having GTA on the PSP is what its all about. The graphics are awesome, the controls are pretty easy to get used to, and the soundtrack is pretty cool (after so many missions you can have custom soundtracks from your memory stick). I highly recommend anyone with a PSP to get this game, it really take takes advantage of all the PSP's power and loading times are not bad at all.
I like it. I get a little "ghosting" when the movies play, but it's not that annoying. The controls are more sensitive, but after you get used to it, it's not bad. After San Andreas, the voice acting was a bit of a letdown, but nothing to complain about. I haven't done too many of the main missions yet because I'm doing side missions and package hunting right now. I really want to get the custom radio station unlocked and find someone else to play multiplayer with, to see how those work.
I bought it but can't play it....My PSP has the 1.5 op system, and I ain't changing any time soon. My kids can play the old Nintendo games on it now....I guess I need a 2nd PSP... DD
Isn't there a program out there that tricks your PSP into thinking it has for example the 2.0 firmware or whatever you want it to be?
Does anyone know why this game is not on PS2? Not a lot of people have a PSP but many still have the PS2.
Hehe...if that was the case, then the Xbox, Gamecube, GBA, DS, PSP wouldn't ever get any new games since the PS2 almost has as many systems as all those combined. Forget next-gen console support as well. IIRC, Rockstar Leeds did the game (think they made some of the other handheld GTA games), not the main Rockstar team that does the console GTA games. It probably isn't a bad decision for Rockstar since they could reuse a lot from the console games and use them for PSP games. And since Sony is hoping that GTA acts as a "killer-app," this could end up opening a new market for Rockstar in a few years, maybe when the PS2 isn't as mainstream. Add all that together (as well as some "persuasion" from Sony) and it isn't a tough decision. Eh...depends on what you mean by "basically." From what I understand, a good analogy might be FFX-2 compared to FFX. Same world, same characters, but completely different game with new gameplay elements and even a slightly better experience in some regards. IIRC, GTA:LCS is pretty much better in almost every way compared to GTA3 (graphics, draw distance, missions, vehicles, etc.) Plus, custom soundtracks and multiplayer. I'm not a 100% sure, but I think wakkoman is right. I remember some people being slightly relieved that GTA only needed 2.0 (I think) and not anything higher, allowing them to use at least some of their homebrew apps.
Looks like custom radio might be a patch you get later, like additional tracks for Wipeout Pure were. The following link may contain spoilers for the game. http://www.libertycitystories.net/
Apparently, there will be another PSP GTA game pretty soon: http://finance.messages.yahoo.com/bbs?.mm=FN&action=m&board=8729490&tid=ttwo&sid=8729490&mid=139925 I'll probably try to get better confirmation than a message board post later, but I'm pretty sure this is legit given the other TT news. edit: Here's a link to Eurogamer that confirms the news: http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=61489
Sorry to bump an old thread, but I thought people with the game might want to know, if they didn't already. http://www.maxbot.com/ On this page you can download the cheat device for GTA: Liberty City Stories. It takes up your first save slot and allows you to spawn any car, weather condition, and even Helicopters. It's a real treat to fly around the city and see all the rooftops they didn't finish. This may be old news but I waited to do any cheats until I got 100% on my own. Has anyone used the custom soundtrack program? I've got about 100 songs on mine that I was thinking about torrenting.
I purchased version 2.01 and i was really depressed to findout i cant convert to 1.5 with it. Later today i am going to post it on ebay, and use the money to purchase a 1.5. Do you guys think im making the right decision? I bought a psp because i wanted to play chrono trigger, the old final fantasys, zeldas, mega mans, heck they even have super smash brothers for it. although the new games will all require higher than 2.0. so its either new games which are far and few...im really looking forward to sukoden 1+2, prince of persia, gran turismo.... but with 1.5 ill have thousands of free old school games at my disposal.... whats a guy to do. help!
1.5 allows you to play all the emulators out there. like the super nintendo, sega genesis, orginal nintendo, gameboy advanced, even some n64 games. 2.0 is ok because you can downgrade it to 1.5 again. but any firmware version higher than 2.0 youre screwed when it comes to any privately made firmware (home brew) but sony tries its best to sway you into upgrading with better web browsers and all that lame stuff. basically they want you to buy their games and not play free stuff. you cannot play the new games coming out like grand theft auto on old psp's, you have to upgrade. its a gimmick.
you can no only get 2.0 and 1.5 on ebay, used from gamestop and stuff but you should definitly make sure before you buy. thats what im trying to decide myself. i have 2.01 right now im bummed that i cant play the old games. but at the same time the new games are exciting as well. its one or the other. tough choice.
I DID IT http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8240103114 Parting ways with the PSP. Go nuts guys.
Why would you spend 250 on an emulator? GTA is supposed to be really good. And I'm sure the PSP library will pick up eventually. You'd have to update sometime. Not too mention they'll probably find hacks to counter the update anyway.
I actually got my psp for $160 , because nostalgia is great. spy hunter, mike tyson punchout, metroid, space harrier. dont forget that it stills plays UMD's, tv shows you download, mp3's, personalization of themes, web browser wherever theres a wireless connection. I figured hang on to the 1.5 version for now, and a year from now when the new games start to pick up 1.5 will be a rarity and pretty valuable.
