LONDON — It was hard to explain, that dead mouse baked into a loaf of bread. British officials have released the photo which proved that Stephen Forse wasn't kidding when he claimed to find the wee creature while making sandwiches for his children.

Stephen Forse, of London, found a mouse baked and embedded into a loaf of Premier Foods bread as he was preparing sandwiches for his children. The firm was fined $26,470.

Forse, who bought the bread from a supermarket in 2009, said Monday he first thought a dark spot in the bread – branded Best of Both – was some poorly mixed dough.

Then he noticed it had fur.

The case wound up in court. Premier Foods pleaded guilty to violating health laws, and was fined 16,821 pounds ($26,470) on Friday.

Forse says his gruesome discovery made him feel ill, and he felt sick again when health officers noted that the mouse's tail was missing, perhaps already eaten in a sandwich.

Kind of related...I have the weirdest issue at my house. There is a location on my kitchen countertop where I have two wood square cutting boards standing up and a few knive block sets next to those. Yet, on a few occassions, I have found what appear to be mouse droppings in that location. It's an awkard spot to find droppings. They look like droppings but I can't be for sure. I just have no idea how they got there. It's always the same location and has happened a few times. The weird part is the droppings are basically in and around the cutting boards...but there is not a lot of room there. I suppose a mouse could squeeze into the same spot and let loose with the droppings.

I don't believe I have any mice in my home...but it seems like that is the only explanation. Weird to find what looks like droppings way up on my countertop. I know mice can jump but...? I have zero openings on to the counter top. I've seen no sign of droppings anywhere else. It's like it appears out of nowhere.

I'm completely at a loss...other than to set up some type of spy cam or something. I would say there have been three incidents over several months. I was thinking this was stuff dropping down from above but there are cabinets above. I checked inside the cabinets and around for holes or anything that would provide an opportunity for a mouse. Nothing...nada...zip.

I keep my bread on the same counter. I would be satisfied with an explanation of a mouse was living in one of the loaves of bread and only came out at night...but no signs that the bread has been tampered with. There are not even any signs of any food being eaten by a mouse. I still have a dog so there tends to be dry food out and around at times...but I never see any signs of anything eating it...not even ants (if it is left out a few days before I clean it up).

That's basically what I found in my kitchen but just on the counter. I have never seen mouse droppings before and I am way OCD about cleaning so I didn't really think about it. Went out of town that weekend when I got back that night while I was asleep I heard a noise in the living room. When I turned on the lights, 1 mouse ran behind the fridge and another jumped out of my trashcan that had one of those hinged lids like some type of super mouse.

I lost it after that at 4 am LOL, there were intruders in my apartment! Called in sick - got on the internet and did some research. Went to HomeDepot and got some mouse traps and steel wool to shove in any type of hole you find that the mice get in. They apparently cant chew through that stuff it messes them up. Sure enough I moved the fridge and there was a hole in the wall were I guess some wiring or something used to be. Shoved a whole bunch of steel wool in the hole to seal it and cleaned all freaking day with bleach. Never had any problems ever again.

You have a mouse. I had one in my old apartment. I would see some droppings around the edges of my counters, behind my appliances and things. Real tight spaces. Mice like to stay close to a corner. I didn't realize it was a mouse until I saw it with my own eyes. Those things can jump and use whatever ledge they need to get up.

I got some glue traps for my landlord and placed them across the bottom of the fridge space because that's where the mouse ran to when I saw him. Come back the next evening and the guy is stuck on the glue trap. Took him out and threw him in the dumpster, then bleached and disinfected my countertops clean.

I have another problem. I swore off mice killing years ago after my burmese python died. I killed a lot of mice back in the day...and I mean a helluva lot.

I won't do it again. I just don't have it in me any more. :(

I'll try to find out how it got in and see if I can't tackle it from that angle. I suspect he may be getting in and out somehow...and there is a hole somewhere. How else could it have gotten in my house? I'll check behind the refrigerator.

This must be some form of payback.

No. I set up a stakeout last night. Thought I heard something a few times but think it was just sounds of the house. No mouse to be found. No sign of droppings. I think this one comes and goes as he pleases. I don't know of any holes that would allow one in. So, unless I want to lay the death trap, not sure what I'm going to do. Maybe I'll pretend I'm in prison and have a little friend who I never see but I assume is there? Don't mice usually get into things? I mean...I got bread, I got dog food, I got crumbs. Nothing is messed with. Last sign of one was a few weeks ago finding a few droppings in that area I talked about. But, nothing since. And, nothing for weeks before that. This is a one night stand mouse.
