1-hr and 2-hr grocery delivery in Houston. Currently inside the loop, downtown, and west of downtown. I wonder how big this'll be. Is this business model sustainable? Anyone in Austin or someplace else try it out?

There's a deal through Houston on the Cheap where you can get $15 worth of free groceries, plus if you sign up today you get a month of 2-hr delivery free.

    More details here:

    I use Rice Delivers . . . great product . . . great people . . . great store.

I don't know much about instacart . . . but it looks like they are using HEB and Whole Foods for my area. I typically walk to Whole Foods, so don't know how useful delivery would be for me. I also noticed that their prices are different from the stores . . . they address this in the FAQ. I honestly don't understand why they'd charge anything different than the store price, they are making $10 off the delivery. Based on that alone, I won't be using them and I'll stick with my local delivery service.

This is insanely awesome. I've been hearing rumors about this and my friends in California use it all the time. Nice! Hopefully Korgers is added soon as well.

I've known people in Chicago doing it since 2003.

This one is for a real city, not Carcosa, TX.

So I looked it over. Jumped on the site... I'll probably use this service at least twice a month.

I kind of enjoy grocery shopping.

    Mainly for the samples.

I used Peapod in Chicago. It was convenient, but everything on there was pretty much overpriced. Not really too surprising, but that's what I'd expect with any of these services.

Kind of the point- it's about priorities and how much your time is worth. If you hate going to the grocery store and don't mind paying extra for food, this is good for you.

Yeah, pretty much. I lived in a high rise at the time, so it was convenient for me to just order a bunch of groceries at once to last me a couple of weeks rather than making a trip to the nearest grocery chain or cvs every few times a week.

Amazon's grocery service in places like LA and SF is pretty popular too.

That too, but not quite like sitting at the bar inside Whole Foods and drinking a pint while a Katy mom in yoga pants and top is buying cheese a few feet away. HAHA

No one says anything to me when I carry my pint around HEB. ;)

But point taken. I haven't had my growler filled in a while. Time to go back...

Why would they? This is Texas right? A GAM can drink his beer while he shops.

When I first came to America, I spent twenty minutes staring at all the varieties of pickles and olives at the grocery store. Now I spend about ten minutes staring at it as the novelty has worn off.

I can't imagine too many people are too lazy to go to the grocery store, at least not enough for them to make this sustainable.
