http://www.draftexpress.com/blog/Jonathan-Givony/#Word-on-the-Street-June-22nd-3276 Among other draft news, we have the following: Hasheem Thabeet cancelled a workout he had scheduled with Memphis, citing a shoulder injury and scheduling conflict (i.e. meeting with other tems). It could be that his agent worries "workouts" are not the best setting to show him off, but Jonathan Givony suspects he may also be not wanting to go to Memphis. Owner Michael Heisley flew in to Memphis to attend the workout that Thabeet cancelled. Hmmm... poor Chris Wallace looks like he's gonna quit or get fired soon. Maybe his pal Daryl will give him a scouting job or something. Things are just hilariously bad over there, it seems.
James Harden DID work out for the Griz, and then the Griz worked out for James Harden. Its safe to say, James Harden was not impressed
I think the pick will be moved also. They really have their backs to the wall in Memphis - they could panic and that's when the GREAT MOREY sweeps in and lands up Rubio. Wishful thinking....
Agreed totally. When your franchise is as nuclear as Memphis is you have no other choice unless you want to draft one of these guys then dare them to not sign with you. (cough Francis cough)
While I agree the Grizzlies are a pathetic franchise (I've been whippin' on them a long time), they should trade the pick to any team willing to give them something tangible and legit. Not because nobody wants to play there, but because none of the players after Blake Griffin are likely worthy of being a 2nd pick in the draft. If someone offers them a trade that will definitely upgrade them at one position or another, they would be foolish to roll the dice on a guy like Thabeet that may not amount to anything. Same for Rubio. Count me in the group that says picks 2 to 10 are all about equal, but the 2nd pick makes a lot more money. That franchise should be sold and moved to another city. Their professional basketball team is the Memphis Tigers.
Agreed totally. Especially on how outside of Griffin the lottery picks are all in the same boat and are essentially indistinguishable. It's precisely why with all this fantasy "Rockets acquire #2 pick from Memphis" talk has left me shrugging my shoulders. Don't get me wrong -- I love Morey's aggressiveness and creativity, but the utter thought of acquiring a top three pick and NOT walking away with Griffin is a waste of time. Memphis' best bet is to send up a bunch of smokescreens and try to get teams that pick after them to sweat. A great example would be with Washington since they're after Hill or Thabeet. See how much getting one of those guys is worth to Washington. Make them call your bluff.
If they pick and have a swing rotation of Mayo-Gay-Harden, there's going to be fist fights. Even if they move Mayo to the 1.
