http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/Th...ly_to_complete_rudy_gay_extension_by_deadline Hmm... what do you think a fair price for Rudy Gay is? I am not suprised since Rudy is likely to ask for a lot, but Grizz are probably doubtful whether it's wise to pay him like a franchise guy when they haven't won and he is not exactly a superstar.
It was meant to be. I would take Gay as a 3rd option in a second... I like his offensive game a lot...And he is still a young guy.
Given his age and production right now, he's a 8m player. If i were him, i would just rather set the asking price high, which is what he may be doing to get out of town and on a better team. In terms of production or option, he's a 2/3 type of guy. If i were the heat, a team with a already really good player or a team like portland that has some good young players, he would be pretty good.
hmm, i don't know if gay would want to come over here knowing that we traded him for shane battier right after we drafted him...

I'm not surprised at all that Memphis has failed to lock up their best young player. In fact nothing will surprise me about the Grizzlies after the Gasol deal. This franchise is quickly replacing the Clippers as the worst franchise in the NBA.
Almost certainly a huge factor in this is that teams up for sale are allergic to long term contracts, especially large dollar ones. Basketball value doesn't matter - multiyear, multimillion deals on the books are seen only as debt and devalue the franchise on the market. Heisley doesn't want to win. He wants to sell the team and minimize his financial bleeding until he's done so. That simple.
