http://chicagosports.com/bulls/content/column/0,2007,172634,00.html Griffin rocketing toward the top of rookie class Jamaal Tinsley, Tony Parker and Pau Gasol have been the front-runners in the race for rookie of the year, but watch out for Houston's Eddie Griffin. After a slow start Griffin, who was the seventh pick in the draft after leaving Seton Hall following his freshman season, is looking like one of the elite power forwards already in the much tougher Western Conference. He is the fourth-youngest player in the league after Eddy Curry, Tyson Chandler and Gerald Wallace, and he grew more than an inch, to about 6 feet 11 inches , since measurements at the predraft camp. "I know there are other coaches out there who might say the same thing about their kids, but I wouldn't trade him for any other rookie in the league," said Houston's Rudy Tomjanovich. Griffin is averaging 7.8 points and 5.2 rebounds a game. But since getting regular playing time with Kenny Thomas hurt, he has averaged 16.6 points, 9.4 rebounds and 3.4 blocks over the last 10 games. "If [Olajuwon] was in his 20s when he came into the league and he winds up as the greatest shot-blocker in NBA history," Steve Francis said, "this guy might go past that number." IS GRIFFIN 6'11?!?!?!?!? IF HE IS, HE'S OUR FUTURE 5 WHEN HE GETS STRONGER. THATS CRAZY!!!!!!!!!! Plus, if he grows more, BEST SHOT BLOCKER IN THE HISTORY OF THE NBA!!!!!!!!!
EG is 6'11? Yes he's got the height to play center now all he needs is the body. I really don't care if he get's really big or not but I hope he can add maybe 10 pounds and be a good 240lbs(more than likely). C or PF he's playing fine right now and I really don't think he has a real position yet, or at least no one really knows what's he's best at for the future. Right now actually I'm happy the way he is, he's playing like an allstar these past 10 games, funny how he's not even a rookie allstar. Damn you NBA!!! (and your refs too!!)
i like the idea of eddie bulking up and playing center just as long as his beautiful shot is not affected. the rotation on that thing is so sweet. he's gonna have to bulk up for position on defense because stronger guys still have their way getting to the hole. most of his spectacular stuff has been from the weak side. what i really want for him though is some footwork practice in the paint and more ballhandling skills. the best thing about eddie so far has been his composure. he never gets shaken ands he's friggin 19. awesome. i get so excited watching him play, sky is the limit.
I dunno, cuz Griffin doesn't look 6'11" on the court. He looks shorter. Sometimes he doesn't even look 6'10". Anywayz....just ignore me
I'm pretty sure Griffin started the season at 6-9, but based on an interview he had after the Nuggets win last Saturday, he said to Bill and Calvin that he has grown an inch since the season began, thus making him 6-10
Garnett has put on weight yet it hasn't affected him. I think 10-15lbs is ok but this should be a gradual thing taking 3-4 years to put on the full 15lbs. If you look at Dream back in the day he was just about Griffins weight. Cato put on some fat.
If Eddie grew an inch since predraft, he could be 7'1" or 7'2" by next season. With MoT back, we could play EG at C who would drift out to cause defensive problems for other teams and have MoT inside. Plus KT, Cat and Francis.. WOHOO !!!!
i think he'll end up 7'6", then Yao Ming can swap clothes with him! He is starting to remind me of a blend of Garnett (Touch/Defense) meets Duncan (10-15 ft game) meets Wallace (rebounding-shooting). All Eddie needs right now is 10-15 more pounds, more muscle and some post up moves and he is a perennial allstar....I think this year's crops of Rooks will be something to watch in 2-3 years.
Eddie also keeps mentioning that he is working on his ballhandling. This would make him the next KG!!!!!!!!!!!!!
