I cannot believe that. They have nearly all the rookies in the game except Eddie.

They even have ALL three Rockets picks that were traded to the Nets for Eddie

The game is a lot better than last year tho. But when you create a player, they somehow left off the option to put on a headband.

    I made Griffin up.

What do you think of the game?

I think the game realy sucks, because they arn't doing a PC-version.

The sort off irritating things like Griffin-left-out have always bin favored by EA Sports it seems.

I wish some other game company would make an NBA game.

How is it better than 2001, JBIIRockets?

Is TMo in the game? That stinks..playing with eddie and inflating his stats is half the fun!

For PS2, right? I played it last night with my brother -- very fun and they did make improvements over last season (question is how will it compare to NBA2K2 coming out in late December I think). Griffin is not on the squad because he was not officially signed .... that's what I think anyway since Terence Morris IS on the team (he signed earlier)

The detail and graphics of the game are outstanding (it was amazing to me how much Glen Rice really looked like Glen Rice to me) ... Francis is a beast in the game.

I didn't think NBA Live 2002 came out for PS2 until November 6th. Hmmmm....I might be running to Blockbuster soon.

Its probably a Signing matter , If a rookie is not signed by a date they wont have him on a team , this is normally why few rookies are on the , But If Im not mistaken , Adrian Griffin should be in the game so if you create EG The announcer should say his name . Where did you guys get the game? I heard it wasnt out until tomorrow

I have both NBA 2K2 for dreamcast and NBA Live 2002 for the PS2. IMO, the only cool thing about Live is that Franchise's pic is on the cover of the box. THIS GAME SUCKS. STAY AWAY. If you want realism, go with 2K2 for the Dreamcast. If you don't have a Dreamcast, 2K2 will be released on PS2 sometime in November.

Hey game developers...here's a hint: If you want people to buy your game and you market it as a sim, HOW ABOUT WORKING ON THE FRICKIN GAMEPLAY? And the rosters... no Griffin? WTF? That's inexcusable! There's not even any teams playing zone on there. And if you want to score at will, just turbo your way to the basket.

It's pretty simple....if you like fluff on your sports games, Live is for you. If you like a little bit of realism mixed in with some great graphics and some AI, 2K2 is your game.

    Clutch,

Yes, I meant for PS2. I made Eddie up and it ended up being a 81 overall, probably a little high, but I may change the attributes again.

I plan on buying 2k2 for the PS2 at christmas time. I think it comes out on December 12th.

People say that 2K2 is the ultimate realism game for the dreamcast. Well, when I get it at Christmas time (rent it first), that had better be the case because I have been a LIVE player since its inception in 1995. It will be hard to get me to change.

Hell, I had NBA showdown 94, and Bulls vs. Lakers

Anyway, just an interesting fact. I will play my 8th season ( with the Rockets, of course). and for the 8th time, it will be the full 82 games, and 12 min quarters. And Yet I still have a social life, and do well in school, go figure.

    JrocketB,

Could you tell us if NBA 2k2 has all the Rocket rookies including Oscar Torres and Tierre Brown? Also, how is the franchise mode in 2k2? Is there a 2 round rookie draft at the end of the season? How does the free agent sigining work? I heard that was the most improved thing about Live 2002, but I remember 2k1 had an average franchise mode, but was better than most out there. I used to be a huge fan of the Live series since 94, but I have yet to be happy with a Live game since the series left the SNES. I think I just expect more out of a playstation/playstation 2 game than I ever did a SNES game.

I think most people should hold off getting Live 2002 and wait for 2k2 if you want the better PS2 basketball game. I hope that the PS2 version is better than the dreamcast version, though even if it is just a port of the dreamcast version, I think it will be superior to Live 2002. Anyone with 2k2 please let me know if I'm on the money regarding this issue and if you know the answers to the questions above, please answer them. :)

    Thanks!

    B

I have NBA2k2, and Oscar Torres is not on it. However, Eddie and Tmo are. Eddie is rated as a 78 overall (Kenny T is a 77).

Overall this game rocks. Great gameplay and the franchise mode is awesome.
Big Kev is a friggin beast on this game, and so is stevie. they even added a little weight to Cato from last year.

I too was a dedicated EA Sports head, until I got hooked on the NBA 2K series, beginning with 2K1 last year. I just bought NBA 2K2 and I'm not at all disappointed.

There's just something intuitive about the controls and gameplay in the 2K series that's lacking in recent editions of Live.

Maybe it's the 2K's default camera angle, or it could be the computer AI (which is still a bit weak), or possibly the physics of the game... somehow, someway, NBA 2K2 feels more realistic and dynamic than the Live series. Last year's Live for PSX2 (which I only played twice) was pretty but the gameplay was stiff and unrealistic. Just putting up a jumper was a herky-jerky ordeal of pauses and useless animation.

    Madden still rules though.

And one thing EA Sports does better than any other sports gaming company is the franchise mode.

I don't even bother with Franchise in NBA 2K2, because it's pretty limited.

But for consistent gameplay, it's no contest.

Just got my copy of NBA 2K2 for Dreamcast today. Very awesome...however there is one problem. I was playing a franchise mode with a fantasy draft and was taking guys like Eddie Griffin, Rodney White, Kwame Brown, Eddy Curry, Pau Gasol and simmed a few seasons ahead to see how good they were...then I was simming the 04/05 season and my Rockets team of Francis and 11 current rookies (in real life) made it to the finals against Toronto. Then I decided to actually play the finals. Game 1 - I'm playing Toronto and I notice Kevin Garnett, Andre Miller, Mike Miller and Tracy McGrady in the lineup...then I see the starting center...JASON COLLIER! I'm laughing at the sight of playing a team in the finals with Collier as their starting center. The game goes on...Collier hits a jumpshot...Collier with a windmill jam...Collier with the one handed flush...You get the point. Jason Collier went on to get 32 points and 13 rebounds !!! I immediately turned off the game after this happened :D.

For some reason, it seems like there will always be some bugs in basketball sims. I have yet to find ONE that has all bases covered. That sucks because basketball is my fav sport, and that's what I spend what little video game time I have playing.

2K2 has it's flaws, but compared to Live over the last couple of years...it's the bomb. I mean, in 2K2 the last couple of years, the most irritating thing has been the difficulty of making shots. That seems to have been fixed this year, as well as MUCH better defensive AI. The player models are still strong, and the graphics are really smooth. There is hardly ever, if any, slowdown at all. I haven't played a full season, and had a draft yet, but the last couple of versions, the players that come out in the draft are a little off physically (i.e. players that are 5'10", 235 lbs.) but for the most part, playing a franchise is pretty fun. Franchise mode is great on Live as well, but the crappy gameplay just nullifies everything else. If EA Sports would put as much time into the gameplay as they do there franchise mode, Live would be on top year in and year out. I just hope that the PS2 version of 2K2 is as good as the Dreamcast version, because I get DAMN tired of having to change the batteries in that VMU thing just so I can save my created players.

Still, I have yet to see a basketball video game that is more focused on game play and game situations than on the other stuff.

Thanks for listening to me rant guys...I try to tell this stuff to my wife, and all she has to say is, "well, if you don't like the games, why don't you spend more time cleaning the kitchen?"

I got nba live yesterday, not because I beleived it was going to be close to as good as NBA 2k2, but because I could not wait till December for it to come out on Ps2. The game is alot of fun, albeit not as good as 2k2, I really enjoyed playing it. Although EG is not in the game, TMO (77 rating)is a monster. With a lineup of Stevie, Cat, Rice, TMO and Cato, I have been beating up on my roomate's Laker's squad. Defintely a game worth buying if you are impatient llike me.
