Will Griffin ever be a consistently used low post threat? I am not asking whether he could be one or not, but whether you believe the rockets will play him there a lot. I see him going down the low post some to work mismatches, but I'd like to see him face the basket mostly. He is as deadly away from the basket as he is near it from the little that I've seen of him. Where are PFs most effective defensively? Near the basket. There are some that can play outside too, but they get most of their work inside. I don't fear the zone when Griffin or Mo is on the court. Having Griffin away from the basket will force opposing teams to depend on a team rebounding effort, giving guards a better chance to rebound. If backcourts are forced to help rebound more, I think its safe to say the rockets will win this one. Creases will open for the guards. It will be hard for a defender to recover on Griffin after a pick because of his superior speed and ability to either slice to the basket or roll to an open shot. How do you stop a pick in roll between Francis and Griffin without giving Mobley or Rice and open three?
Yeah man I've heard a lot about Griffin being a great post up player, but they haven't run any plays for him down low so far in the 2 games he's played, and when he's trying to post up and begging for the ball, our guys never pass it to him. Does anybody notice this?
In the first preseason game he was in Rudy paired him with Francis in the lineup exclusively. Steve drove and dished Eddie just didn't have his game legs and Steve gave up on him. I'm sure this connection will be explored with time.
