From the Chronicle... Eddie Griffin has a chance to become the first rookie in NBA history and the third player overall with 100 blocked shots and 100 3-pointers in the same season. Through 43 games, Griffin has 48 3-pointers and 74 blocked shots. In NBA history, only Robert Horry and Dirk Nowitzki have registered 100 blocks and 100 3-pointers. Horry (109 blocks, 142 treys) did it with the Rockets in 1995-96; Nowitzki (101 blocks, 151 treys) did it with Dallas last season. WHOA! Go Eddie!
Wow , That Robert Horry sure became a stud so Griff is a Sure Super Star now . Gasol has 97 blocks but only 1 three point make . Shane Battier has 57 3 pointers made and 40 blocks
The reason that I really liked the potential of Horry (after I saw him -- I wanted that superstar Harold Minor dammit!) was because he combined the perimiter game that the Rockets needed from a three, with the 'D', rebounding, and shotblocking that you would normaly see from a four. He was a three on offense and a four on defense. I (obviously) see the same thing from Griffin. The difference is, I've already seen more improvement from Griff @ 19 than Horry in his entire time here. He's like Horry with a desire to excel. Face it NugzFan, you're just jealous.
The sad truth is, if our team weren't sucking the large weasel this year, we wouldn't be paying any attention to who was on track for weird combo stats like 100 3-pointers and 100 blocks. 13 and 30. Those are the only two numbers that matter. Eddie's job is to help us add to the first number and not add to the second.
Not knowing the stats and too lazy to look them up, I still figured gasol wouldn't be close to that record in three points. He almost never shoots them. Thanks for confirming what I already knew MO. A question to ponder: which player will griffin resemble more when he matures - horry or dirk? I personally think he is an horry in-the-playoffs type player. I don't think he has the offensive stroke of dirk. I know people are gonna flame me for this comparison, but if you remember, in any game, horry could dominate. He had the skills to become a top 5 player, yet for some reason, at times, he'd become so passive in games to where you thought he was another player altogether. Griffin, to do on a NIGHTLY bases what horry only did half of the time, is a very good player indeed.
kbm, Isn't that the nature of the Rockets offense for the past eight years at least? Everyone but the pg is standing around most of the time, waiting for the kick out on most plays. With Hakeem, or Charles, they got the ball and sort of acted like the point guard down low. So almost everyone else looks lazy for not doing anything. That block with pass to pass to baseball pass tonight versus Charlotte shur was purty, too bad we don't push the ball that hard or move that much very often.
