http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/sports/bk/bkn/1264780 The Rockets' game at Milwaukee offered a chance for rookie Eddie Griffin to play against "cousin" Tim Thomas for the first time. There was just one problem with the family reunion: Griffin and Thomas are not related. "We've heard that we were cousins for a few years now," Griffin said. "It's pretty funny. We've talked about it. But we're not related." Griffin played for Thomas' AAU team in Philadelphia, and the two worked out together last summer. "We're good friends," Thomas said. "It's been fun for me to see him grow from childhood superstar to NBA player. I'm happy for him. He's definitely going to be a great player. If people want to say we're cousins, that's all right."
M&FS, someone beat you to it. I can't remember which thread is was: Willis on the Trading Block? or one like that. But it was just an aside. Anyway, I don't know how this rumor could have been started. If it isn't true, why would someone start it? Did Thomas call Griffin 'Cuz' once, and someone ran with it? I can't fathom someone purposefully lying about something like that.
For one thing they both are similar. Same body size, both from Philly/NJ area, and the fact that Griffin played for the "Tim Thomas Playaz" AAU team. However, it shouldn't have assumed a relation.
Yeah. That must've been one great AAU team. Isn't today Wink's b-day. I'm suprised no one's said anything bout it.
I mentioned that they were cousins a couple of times. My source was Andy Katz from ESPN. Here's the website. http://sports.espn.go.com/nbadraft/player?playerId=479
