Does anybody else read this weekly post from Gregg Easterbrook. I love the comedic styles mixed with the serious elements of things gone wrong in athletics. If you don't read or have not heard of him, check out his newest article on big time college athletics and the ridiculousness of the staff numbers and more importantly, the costs. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page...1207_tuesday_morning_quarterback&sportCat=nfl
What in the world is TMQ? EDIT: Never mind. Dude... at least say what it is for some of us not addicted to ESPN...
Not recently, but have done so in the past. Fun read. I enjoy his nicknames (like Jon "I was a teenage coach" Gruden). His brother Frank Easterbrook, by the way, is a judge in the U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals. One of the most cited judges in the country, as I recall.
I used to read Easterbrook religiously, but I don't anymore. The key is to split the columns into pieces. Anyone who can read one of his columns in one sitting has my respect. He was gone for a while. I forget what happened, but he was let go by ESPN for a spell. Something offensive he wrote I think. The backlash was big enough that ESPN had him back.
Found it. They fired him after some anti-Semitic comments he made in response to the violence in Kill Bill. Here's what he said: "Set aside what it says about Hollywood that today even Disney thinks what the public needs is ever-more-graphic depictions of killing the innocent as cool amusement. Disney's CEO, Michael Eisner, is Jewish; the chief of Miramax, Harvey Weinstein, is Jewish. Yes, there are plenty of Christian and other Hollywood executives who worship money above all else, promoting for profit the adulation of violence. Does that make it right for Jewish executives to worship money above all else, by promoting for profit the adulation of violence? Recent European history alone ought to cause Jewish executives to experience second thoughts about glorifying the killing of the helpless as a fun lifestyle choice."
