Man I hope this isn't true! This would be a huge mistake for him, knowing that he could be a potential lottery pick and alot of teams could use his size such as the Rockets, Pacers, Warriors, or even Utah, who could draft him as insurance just in case Boozer leaves.

I really want the Rockets to draft this kid if we get in the lottery this year. He seems like the best big man in this years draft, imo.

Everybody always says this. Then when they have more time to consider their options they usually tend to opt for the NBA.

If he had a great chance for a championship, he might stay or if his stock is dropping badly, he might stay.

Then we have a possible lockout coming after 2011 so he could be without pay for some time if comes out next year.

Opting out next year would increase his stock that year. However, he will completely miss out on summer league, preseason games and training if the owners have a lock out in 2011.

When he does sign for his new team, it would be under the new CBA with a lower rookie scale contract with possibly fewer guaranteed years.

I think he will for sure decide to test the 2010 Draft waters without an agent.

That way if he is really going to go high this year, he'll stay in or he can decide to opt out this year and enter the draft next year.

I see no reason why he would not do that.

He has some major problem areas, if he stayed and showed the ability to improve on them, that would increase his draft stock significantly. He's not the solution for the Rockets, in any case, since he's not an elite defensive prospect, just a decent one.

Defense needs to be our #1 focus in selecting a big man this draft.

I think once he see's how high he can go, and gets to meet with some teams...he'll decide to enter the draft....specially if he gets to talk to morey, and is convince his tailor made for this offense, which he is.....

His play in the second half of the season moves him in my top ten lottery pick. So he's out of our reach. But still want him to commit to draft because it make Patterson available.

I think it's still a possibility he will enter the draft this summer because his advisors/family agents will make it clear that less money may be available next summer.

Like drugs, just say no to Whiteside!

Dude has BUST written all over him. He is extremely weak and not NBA ready in my opinion. He also has questionable work ethic, somthing that the Rockets don't need!

Uh, but, the more players who declare, the more players get pushed down to the Rockets' draft spot. The fewer who declare, we wind up with slimmer pickings.

I like this kid's game. I see him as one of the previously high-projected guys that drop on draft nights for the average athleticism he has. He definitely has a place in Rick Adelman's system.

If he stays he could improve his stock for next year's draft. Perhaps even go #1.

Wait a minute...there is someone who is not entering the draft?

That being said, I think it's a sound decision. Players are running scared and jumping into the draft prematurely for fear of the new CBA and/or a lockout, but I think Monroe is smart. I'm guessing he is thinking "Next year it will be a thinner draft and if you're good, you'll end up getting paid no matter where the CBA sets the salaries."

If you are projected to go in the lottery it would be crazy to come back with the possibility of a lockout.

That is probably one reason why he has entered the draft.

I don't understand this rationale. If there is a lockout, the players don't get paid. Right? So, seemingly, the choice would be to play video games while not making money or going to class and not making money. Would somebody explain the rush when the new agreement will apply to everyone anyway?
