Okay I had a really difficult time naming this thread because I have questions and comments about this article... http://www.gatorsports.com/article/20080619/NEWS/542863672/1016&title=Calathes_going_for_Greek_team I found it on a UK blog which was entertaining (we seldom miss an opportunity to mess with the Gators) It just seems nuts that this kid is even allowed to try out for this team. Here's the post (My questions to follow) So what exactly are the rules for who can play on a country's Olympic team?? I know that Kelenna played for Great Britain last summer, but it's my understanding that was born in London. Makes sense then for him to be allowed to play for the team. What are the requirements? Can I try out for the Australian national team because my great grandfather visited there at the turn of the century or what? Does anyone know where I can find the rules?
From Wikipedia Nick Calathes (Greek Νίκος Καλάθης Nikos Kaláthis, born on February 7, 1989 in Winter Park, Florida) is a Greek American basketball player. He attends the University of Florida where he is currently in his freshman year. Calathes has a dual citizenship of both the United States and Greece and has agreed to join the Greek junior national team in 2008 or later.
Why don't you ask these two fine Russian citizens who will be playing hoops for the motherland in Beijing? I think their names are J.R. Holdenski and Becky Hammonova.
Lol.. On a side note, what does everyone think about Pat Calathas (Nick's brother) as the Rocket's second round pick? IMO, this late in the second round, it's a reach anyway, and Pat seems to have the height and skill. He might make Novak a tradable asset? Might also be the second coming of Dan Langhi
If my memory serves me right this is the guy that did the game winning shot against Gasol/Espana in the Eurobasket Final.
