http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/2002/0820/1420765.html 1) The guy that caught the ball is a dumbass for making a promise that he KNEW he wouldn't keep 2) The other guys are even bigger dumbasses in thinking that this guy would actually split the profits from the home run ball This is one of the few times that I actually WANT the lawyers in this case to squeeze these greedy morons for as much in legal fees as they can
it doesn't sound like they made a "true handshake/oral agreement." it sounds more like they were shooting the s*** and just pretending how great life would be if they caught the ball... sorta like everyone dreams how they'll spend their lottery winnings if they actually win... so... those times back in college when a friend of mine would watch the Lottery drawing on TV on Wednesday nights and would imagine aloud how he'd spend the money and I would always say, "You're gonna buy me a Hummer, right?" and he'd say "of course!"... well, are you telling me that was a verbal contract and I could have sued to collect? damn, i better start talking s*** like that in front of all my friends and make sure there is a witness around... even though we might be goofing around and laughing, it looks like its an oral contract! gimme a break. the guy came up with a bloody face and scratches for obtaining that ball, he deserves to reap the benefits from its worth ALONE!
