how can you list a Greatest Video Game thread without Final Fantasy VII? i was never an RPG fan until i played this game. as a matter of fact, it's the only RPG i've ever finished. the storyline was magnificent and characters were unforgettable. edit: meh, i noticed a "none of the above" option. still, FFVII should not be a "none of the above".
The first time I played GTA III, I felt like I was witnessing the change of video games as I knew it. I think Castle Wolfenstein on the Apple IIE and Tetris on any platform deserve mention as well.
Yeah, not to be rude or anything since it would be impossible (IMO) to make a poll like this, but you did leave out a lot of games. Pokemon, Gran Turismo, GTA, Final Fantasy (plus maybe other SE games like Dragon Quest or Kingdom Hearts), Metal Gear Solid, Splinter Cell, Tekken, and Super Smash Brothers are just a few games off the top of my head, and these games tend to top the sales charts too. I could throw in something like Resident Evil (RE4 to be exact), God of War, Ico/SOTC, etc., as options for best game, although their sales don't necessarily reflect that. And those were all games from this generation (for the most part). My all-time favorite is probably Xenogears, from the PS1 days. Also liked the Chrono ___ games (Chrono Trigger mostly). Mega Man could be a logical choice, as does Sonic (from the classic days anyway). I think The Sims is the best selling PC game with like 15-20M copies sold. Just a ton of games that could be the "greatest," yet only a few poll options (and as mentioned, some of these games shouldn't be referred to as "none of the above"). I guess once Duke Nukem Forever comes out, this will all be solved very easily.
Ikaruga for the Dreamcast. A shmup with the qualities of a puzzle, one of the hardest games I have ever played.
