Man, that's a tough one. A lot depends on how you define metal. Is Led Zeppelin metal? Is AC/DC? Not in my mind. I guess my list would be: 1. Pantera. The only traditional metal band powerful enough to succeed big in the 90s. Their early contemporaries like Skid Row were completely forgotten, but Pantera was too awesome to be ignored, Eddie Vedder be damned. Awesome live. 2. Metallica. Invented American thrash. Eventually changed their sound and proved heavy metal could succeed on the radio. Iconic enough to be equally popular in Iraq and Illinois and has toured every place with electricity. 3. Black Sabbath. Invented the stuff. First four albums are as good as any other discography in the genre. Wrote love songs to drugs.
Wow. I dont have a favorite, just wanted to see someone put something besides the typical metallica slayer pantera that we always see.
Manowar = Kings of Metal I think there were in the guiness book of world records for having the loudest metal concert...
ditto on all three counts. with a side helpnig of Megadeth and Pantera to fill out the top 5. but as far as the best....Maiden hands down, no other band combined the mix of musicianship and songwriting into such a potent sound. One of the best live metal bands I have ever seen, and Ive seen a TON. on an additional side note....White Zombie was pretty kickass live....worked that show when they opened for Danzig at the Tower. btw...Danzig SUCKED.
