Here is a video for those of you that never seen Dream play. It shows what Dream did to a young and in shape Shaq.

I was watching some of the old film of Russell and Petit, and now I know why these guys scored so much. No one played any defense at all. Even Russell's defense was weak compared to what we see today. I guess the 90's pistons really did change the game of basketball.

I also love all these guys that could only dribble with one hand including Cousy. I could have been an NBA player in those days. (not really) :D

You see. Hakeem's bread and butter was fad away jumpers.
Shaq couldn't stop him. However, a young Shaq was just too
strong for Hakeem to defend too. He simply bumped Hakeem
    away and dunked.

This was probably the last time Shaq was outplayed.

Hakeem's bread and butter was whatever he felt like making it to be.

damn. the 2000 Shaq was simply too dominant. No basketball
player in the history could stop him then.

I'm glad Jordan didn't win, just because of his reputation as the "Greatest Ever"(TM). That Magic performance as a 20 year old PG playing centre (amongst other positions) is stunning.

The Shaq bias really is frustrating.

How is getting 38 points and 17 boards in a 6 game series against the Pacers (with no big man) better than getting 32 points, 12 boards and 6 dimes ina 4 game sweep of Orlando (with Shaq)?

I guess LA was blessed that there were no other centers in the league that he had to worry about containing.

Dream outplayed him until he got old. Duncan outplayed him in the playoffs last yr. Yao outplayed him twice this year.

When 90% of the centers in the league suck, it's kind of hard for one to outplay a superstar.

I was glad to see Isiah's 1988 Game 6 performance at #3. Finals record 25 points in a quarter on a horrible ankle sprain. Watch that tape if you can find it. How he got from one end of the court to another I havent figured out yet, much less how he dropped 25 on Magic, Byron, and Michael Cooper. Amazing performance. He was truly one of the toughest players ever.

Hakeem has had better gamesi n the playoffs - namely his demolition of David Robinson.

Don't remember the exact quote, but I remember it was something like:

"David Robinson is asking himself, what must I do?"

Against Shaq, Hakeem poured in jumpers because Shaq didn't have the same "hop" as Robinson. But when he played against Robinson, Dream tormented him, made him look like a total fool, faking him over and over again.

You guys really need to stop posting these Hakeem videos. I'm going to start crying for the old days. :)

But that's ok... I think I'll go watch the Doctors of Dunk vs. Phi Slamma Jamma NCAA game. ;)

u can actually download the 300k videos first to ur local harddrive and play it. it's not jerky at all.

I have to download it first to my harddrive cos i'm on a 56k modem :(

btw, i think a lot of the guys back in the 60s-70s , so called superstars and hall of famers , if they were to play today, they'd be trashed. A lot of the players back then did not have as refined skills and talent as the guys we see today. I'd say alot of them are overrated.

And, damn their jumpshot releases and over the head tosses full swing jumphooks looked ugly!!

That title is a bit confusing, I thought you meant Dream at age 23. I was like "wasn't he closer to 33?"

God Real Player is the worst piece of sh*t media player in the history of the world. It saddens me how stupid web sites continue to use these guys, like MTV, NBA, and CNN. Actually, I do know why they do it. Since to access the good stuff, you need to have a a paid membership, that means these guys get a little extra cash from Real. I'm so tired of videos with metallic sounding echoes and piss poor quality. It's like freaking time traveling back to the mid 90's. That video of Dream is probably the same file they had back in 1995.

Uh, well of course pre- Joe Fulks players couldn't stand up in today's league, but the 60s/70s stars? Wilt, Russell, Robertson, West, Baylor, Havlicek, Barry, Frazier? Those guys would do juuuuust fine, thank you. You think players today have "more refined" skills? Really? This is the age of the athletic high-school phenom, not the refined veteran with sound fundamentals, in case you hadn't noticed. :p

And "full swing jumphooks" may look ugly, but try blocking one. I know they're effective, I use them.

...WHY CAN'T THEY JUST USE WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER!?

I think I remember them interviewing Elie after the SA series, and Dream told him "he's borrowing my trophy Mario". He said once everyone heard that they knew David was in trouble because they never heard him talk like that before. The rest is history. :)
