I went last night to the Angelika in DT Houston I saw one of the top movies made recently about war, No Man's Land. BTW so was Black Hawk Down, but in a completely different way. This movie works on a much more intellectual than visual level, like Blackhawk Down.. For me movies about recent wars that are more similar to our present (or in some cases hoped for )wars are generally more interesting. Of course I was raised on hundreds of WW II films, so even Saving Private Ryan is nothing new except for the special effects etc. The movie is about the tangled web of Bosnians, the Serbs, the UN forces and international media coverage in that conflict. The mess and confusion is dramatized primarily through the interaction of three of the Serb and Bosnian combatants. Most review give it 3!/2 to 4 stars out of 4.. I won't say more, as I liked to be surprised by movies, except to say that it caused me some reconsideration of my views on these conflicts and it might even cause Treeman to reconsider a thing or two, too. No Man's Land The Houston Chronicle says is will be in the running for an Oscar. For those who need more info
