Great deal for the rockets

I see alot of people here all upset about getting Rice. I think this is a great deal for the rockets in many ways possible. The rockets might of lost defense but I think Shandons Defense was way too overated.

With Glen Rice we now have that scorer that comes to show up everynight. With Shandon he never came prepaired for his offense, maybe once a month he would score a nice amount to help. Francis will get alot more assists with passing to Rice. Rice is a much better shooter and post up player than Shandon. Shandon didnt fit this team , trust in Rudy and Cd, they know what they are doing to help the team.

Eddie probably wont start but I can see him playing some backup 4. His minutes wont be as big as some of you thought it was going to be. But thats alright because hes 19 and still has time to learn.

Players I dont see sticking with the rockets. WALT WILLIAMS. I will be surprised if he is on the rockets. They asked Cd on 610 about who will be the guy who does the garbage work for the team and Cd said that they are looking for that guy right now , takes time. ( Hint HInt )

Also Shandon said that he isnt mad that Houston traded him. He thought that he didnt fit with Houston well to get what he wanted, that he was the man out. He wished the rockets the best and he said I hope the they wish the best for me as well.. Good luck Shandon , you will like The Big Apple but you wont see any more touches than you did here. You got paid and thats what you want. :) ( CATO DEAL ) ! :

This makes the team more experienced. Rice has been there to the finals and won, hes gone to the playoffs and is an all star player. Rockets did a nice job by getting Glen Rice, Im happy with this trade. So is Glen Rice, he likes the idea of playing with Cuttino and Francis, thinks they are a young exciting team. Good to see he is happy.

    Welcome aboard Glen Rice.

    Brilliant post. :)

By the way, where did you hear this?

"So is Glen Rice, he likes the idea of playing with Cuttino and Francis, thinks they are a young exciting team. Good to see he is happy. "

Not that I doubt the info, but I've been looking for some quotes from Rice all night, to see how he feels about coming here. Were these from 610 or something?

That was a good post Francis3.

I think we need to find out what Rice's wife thinks though -- I don't know that it matters what Glen says . . .

At first, I was really kindof nervous about getting Glen, but once I thought about the cap space deal, and a few other things I figured it'd be a good move for both teams.

I think NY gets something they need in return. The only question is where they will play Shandon. I assume he'll be the 6th man off the bench, which is IMO his best role. I wouldn't want to be paying Shandon more than Cuttino anyways.

As for us, I think Rice gives our roster a bit more manuverability. Now, we have an opening at backup SG, giving possible PT to Morris and Langhi there. Then, we have Griffin backing up the 3 and 4, but I think his role is REALLY up in the air. I know it sounds dumb, but I wouldn't be too surprised if we played MO T at the C position an awful lot this year.

Rockets will have to test out some wacky lineups and I think they can do alot of things with what they have now. Any time you can trade a bench player for an all star then you know you did a good job. :)

Rice was an all star,he still has a good outside shot but is slowing down.

Not dumb at all. In fact, Taylor played a TON of minutes at center last year. I'm sure we'll see him play a lot more center this season.

Im so pissed that the Rockets gave up 8/4/2 per game with Shandon........damn that will be missed.

His defense is waaaaay overrated as well

    Welcome to the team Rice!!!

Hope you like wearing PJ's to work! :D

Rice will drastically improve the rockets outside shooting and will help steve in the zone D.

With this move, the Rockets have "rocketed" themselves into the top five teams in the west. Even their weak frontcourt won't be able to slow this team down. They are now clearly better than the Suns, Wolves, and Jazz- and I think they have a great shot at finishing above the Mavs or Blazers.

Rice is a veteran scorer. He is someone who will provide consistency on offense. If Francis, or Mobley are off their games, they still have a guy capable of scoring 25+. Combine that with general all-around improvement, and hopefully some kind of center upgrade (either Cato improving, or someone else starting in place of him), and the Rockets are a real darkhorse in the playoffs. They still need to do whatever it takes to sign Mooch, however. He is vital.

I must admit that I was not for the deal at first because of the contract, but some persuasive minds have steered me in supporting Glen Rice's future tenure with the Rockets. Excellent points from everyone. Francis3 basically summed it up nicely.

I can't wait for the season! It will be an interesting one.

I'm a Rockets fan, so I hope, Rice will be everything we hope. There are however, a couple of things that bother me.
    1. Didn't Rudy say the same things when we got the Wiz?
    2. What is it with Rudy and aging gunners? Wiz, Eddie, Mike Woodson, etc.
    3. We could only find 5mil/yr for Dream, but found roughly, 7mil for Rice, with a 9mil cap hit.

    ZRB??!!

Of all people I can not believe you are on board with this trade. I thought you might be one of the people that would say we traded Hakeem for Rice. However, the more I think about it, I know you realized Hakeem made the choice to leave. So, with your statement, you have revealed to us that deep down inside you are much more of a Rocks fan than a Hakeem fan. Team first, players second. Yes!!! I see a crack in the armour.

I agree with your assessment...I was a great trade. Personally, I think it scares the H#LL!!! out of the other teams. It was a massive offensive improvement.

I think the trade has a lot of upside. I like the idea of not throwing Griffin to the wolves, esp. since we are not sure what position he is going to develop into. But at the same time, since Rice is a bit older than the rest of our SF crew he will have some minutes where Griffin, Morris, Langhi can shoot it up as well.

Yeah, we have a weak C position, but we have a lot of strengths elsewhere and we are FAST. I love speed. I will lurking around my bosses office for spare tickets all season.

Is Rice REALLY happy about this deal? I worry about his comments with the Lakers and Knicks. If he's cool with Mobley and Taylor demanding the ball in the 4th and 1st quarter respectively, I think he will be ok. Nice to have a Mad Max type of shooter out there again.

(On a side note, if Jordan comes back, does that mean someone will bring Max back? He did quite well defending David Alridge's Man God.)

Sorry to see Bull leave but its time for Langhi to shine.

Cd also said that Glen Rice was happy about playing in the Compaq Center because he thinks thats a great shooters place to play and also Cd mentioned that Rice is good friends with Rudy and Keith Jones who he spent a summer with in Japan.

Ok seriously if you really think about this, Would you have wanted Griffin to start at the 3?

    Francis
    Cat
    Griffin
    Mo
    Cato

Griffin has alot of skills, and I think will probably be the best player on this team. But he is 19, he is going to get lost. I think rudy knows that and thats why he brought in some VETERAN that knows how to win and fits well with this team. Rice will produce points, and Griffin will take it by slowly. This move will actually help Griffin. The type of guy Griffin is, I am expecting him to work hard and prove that he can be a starter soon.

But Im still expecting another trade. The way cd sounded was as if he had some unfinished business.

That is a beautiful post. It shows not only how far you've come as a poster, but how much you are on the same wavelenght with what Rudy and Co. are trying to do. I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said and nominate this as your most coherent post ever:D
