A quadruple-double has been accomplished exactly four times — by Nate Thurmond, Alvin Robertson, Hakeem Olajuwon, and David Robinson. There's also something called the "five-by-five," which is when a player has five, rather than 10, in each category. That's been done 14 times, including six by Olajuwon and three by Andrei Kirilenko. Not surprisingly, Olajuwon and Kirilenko are the only two players with a five-by-six to their names. And on March 10, 1987, Olajuwon came the closest of any NBA player in history to the quintuple-double when he put up 38 points, 17 rebounds, 12 blocks, seven steals, and six assists against the Supersonics. The only two known quintuple-doubles occurred at the women's high school level, by Tamika Catchings in 1997 and Aimee Oertner this past January. It looks like Grantland got it wrong. He needed LESS stats in '90 to do the quintiple-double In '87 he needed 7 combined assists and steals. In '90 he needed 6 combined assists and steals? If they went by Wikipedia, they're listed in chronological DATE order there, not by closest to 5-by-10 order. Before anyone says no, remember that an aging Clyde Drexler was just 1 assist shy of recording a quadruple double as a Rocket. Willis missed a last second three that would have sealed the deal. Damn you Willis.
I believe that Olajuwon had another quadruple double taken away from him by the score keeper.... but may be wrong... The best chance for another quadruple double has to be LeBron... surprised he does not have one.
If Lebron had that same engine guys like Jordan and Hakeem did, and it was late in the season against the Bobcats, I'm sure he would go for a quad or even a quint double.

actually the score keeper gave him an extra one but Thorn took it away. Didn't matter much since Hakeem got his quad double a few weeks later.
i just looked at hakeem's game log from 1989-90 on basketball-reference and on the game log they took away the 10th assist on the almost quadruple double. they had always counted it as 10 assists for some reason. however, as before, the assist still counts as part of hakeem's season and career totals.
