This is a nice simple play in that a three point shooter gets a screen and Harden gets the ball to him easily with a cross court pass. With all the PNR the Rockets do, the off ball defenders are probably so focused on that, they don't notice the offball screen coming.
McHale still hasn't implemented his entire playbook yet. I just find it funny that he put in a few OKC sets already.
I think he said in an interview he incorporated some of the Thunder's plays to make Harden more comfortable. Kinda makes sense given he only had two practices with the team prior to the Pistons game.
Very simple play to implement. Harden knew play. Asik and Delfino are experienced players and probably picked it up very quickly. I do like how Asik is drawing his man away from basket even though he has a range of two foot. I know there will be lots of bumps in the offense, but there was a lot of space for the penetration against Detroit. I know it was one game, but it was very nice to see.
He admitted in his postgame interview that they implemented some OKC plays in when Harden came. This is so he can find some quick easy success and help him get acclimated with the rest of the team. By doing this he put Harden in a position to be comfortable in the sets at the same time learn how/when Lin passes versus Westbrook, or how/when Asik rolls to the basket versus Perkins. I don't think McHale is a great X's and O's guy but he and his staff as a whole I admire thoroughly! So cudos to them for not being too prideful to use what works with other teams.
They better start to raise the bar offensive scheme wise or we're going to get smoked by 90% of the NBA.
I'm not a McHale fan but the players usually make the coach not the other way around......(ect. "The Zen Master") having said that I agree they more than likely were better plays. ................. ................. .................
