That may prove to be very good news for the Rockets in the future.

Correct me if i´m wrong, but that would leave only us, Dallas, Atlanta and Chicago with capspace to land WEBBER next year.

If we can make the playoffs with MO manning the PF spot, we may have the best shot out there of landing Webber.

Actually, Mo may even be a valuable asset in landing Webber.

Unless, of corse he demands a sign and trade like Jones and Grant themselves did.

    But the possibility is there.

The obvious destination for Webber next year is out of the picture.

And yes, i know "post in the proper forums and all" i apologize in advance, oh almighty serious police.

Geez, what are you trying to do, give Mango heart trouble? [IMG] Be careful on those titles. [IMG]

I see that we would have the best shot out of those teams to land Webber, but as of now we won't be under the cap enough for Webber. At some point this offseason, by the deadline, or on draft day we need to drop some players with big contracts. (Walt?) Else we'll be under the cap, just not enough for a guy like Webber. Still, do not rule out the possibility of New York. New York would offer Spree or Houston for Webber in a minute, and New York is much more of a marquee stage and championship level team than we are now. I'm afraid of a scenario of Webber making us drop salary by saying he's interested, and threaten the Kings by saying "Sign and trade me to New York or I'll sign with Houston." Which do you think the Kings will choose? Then we are left with all that money for a very weak free agent class.

It would seem the plan is simple:

Sign Mo to a one-year deal, make a run to the playoffs and dignify Hakeem with a honorable exit, and next year make a pitch to land Webber.

If that fails we would still have the option of signing Mo if he proves he´s worth it.

Dumping Walt really IS a must. Though i don´t think he is a cancer like some people make him out to be, he eats way too much capspace for what he delivers.

And i STILL think our chances of landing Webber are slim at best, but with Miami out of the picture, it could actually get done.

And if New York has to get rid of either Houston or Sprewell to land Webber, they´re not contenders anymore. Not much of an improvement. The Knicks have actually no way to improve, since their only players who are worth something in a trade are the ones they would be unwilling to part with.

Another thought crossed my mind: Failing to get Webber, what do you guys think of signing Mutumbo and moving Cato to PF or vice-versa?

Of course Mutumbo is old and it would have to be a short-term contract, two years at best, but what a front-line that would be.

    Just a thought.
