since there nothing new to talk about let me ask possible midseason trades. the nets messed up in the offseason to keep kidd happy. I think houston has a greatshot at getting him for expiring contracts. Over in orlando they have alot of talent but might not mesh well and will be a around the cap next offseason. Dumping hill off will make them 12 million under the cap 22 mill under luxury tax. both will make rockets the team to beat in the nba. With kidd we will be a lethal combination of the suns and spurs great defence and great running game like showtime lakers. Hill an tmac would be a nigthmare type matchup for teams. like having jordan pipen and shaq on the one team. pierce may also be available but we probably dont have enough to get him. I know there injury prone and have massive contracts and maybe a bad long term decision but if dramatically improve our chances of winning this season why not do it?
I agree. With Jason Kidd we would have a versatile offense paired with potent defense since Jason Kidd isn't a pushover defensively. In our offense we could fast break with Yao out of the game and occasionally when he is in the game. I think everyone's question will be do we possibly have enough expiring contracts to obtain Jason Kidd. I mean, who else would you trade for him? Bob Sura I can see but really who else on the active roster? Moochie Norris, Charlie Ward + the expiring contracts? I mean really what could we offer?
BREAKING NEWS:::::::: Rockets owner Les Alexander died early this morning, after reading a thread at clutchfans.net about aquiring J.kidd and Grant hill.
Hill has a glass body. he's so fragile it's sad.....as for Kidd, that contract is god awefull. i can see Dawson even Considering it.
Didn't we have this discussion about both of these guys already about two months ago? Are we this desperate for action?
Hey I know, let's discuss which of these two guys should have won the rookie of the year award. I'd say they were about equal. How about you?
I'm banking that the Rockets will be the hottest team in the NBA by midseason and there is no way we'd even consider altering the mix.
only reason I could see the Rox pull the trigger on a deal like that would be if we were struggling. But once we start the season on our 20 game winning streak I dont think Les/CD/JVg will want to mess with the chemistry. But an expiring contracts for expiring contracts swap would be interesting and GHill would have to demand a trade.. (which I doubt) J
I would be reluctant to take on Grant Hill, because as others have mentioned he would be lucky to finish the season healthy. I would love to get JKidd though, and I've advocated this before. We had enough expiring contracts to trade for him before the Weatherspoon amnesty, but now I don't know. It's one of the main reasons I opposed the Spoon move. Kidd's salary is a concern, right enough. But consider: (1) If the Rockets were to win a championship with Yao on board, can you imagine the sponsorship deals that Les would pick up in China? It boggles the mind. So Les should consider Kidd's salary to be an investment. (2) The team's expiring contracts will clear out a lot of cap space next summer, but who could the team possibly get with the newly available bucks that would be better than JKidd? (3) Deke will gone in two years, and T-Mac's back and knees are already hurting. So the team's championship window may not be open for as long as we thought. Carpe diem.
The day the New Jersey Nets trade Jason Kidd for expiring contracts is the day Chuck Nevitt unretires and leads the league in dunks. I have no earthly clue why someone would suggest it, perhaps because I'd love such an exorbitant level of optimism. New Jersey wants Jason Kidd, traded for Vince Carter for Jason Kidd, and they won't lose their bankable star for some expiring Rockets players. I mean think about it. You're Rod Thorn. Would you in all honesty trade the best point guard in the NBA for expiring Rockets contracts? That doesn't make any sense at all. Grant Hill's body isn't fragile. He is tough as nails. He was playing with a broken ankle for quite some time because he didn't want to miss games for Detroit and Orlando. Unfortunately, for him, his ankle was broken to an extent that the best doctors in the world weren't sure as to how he could be healed to play again. His persistence paid off, and he's back in the NBA playing after a long hiatus, and furthermore, playing at a much higher level than over half of the players in the NBA.
So you're saying that TMac at 26 is already hurting and won't be able to compete at the highest level for the next 5-6 years? I disagree. Only thing Tmac really needs is a reliable backup so he doesn't have to play as much as last year and most of his years in Orlando. If by "as long as we thought" you mean for the next 6 years then I totally disagree but it's your opinion and is respected.
What are you 10 years old? Forget that did you even see him play this year? See his averages? That is after he spent almost 3 or 4 seasons on the injured list. There is a reason he made the all-star team last year. Not to mention how insane he was back when he was healthy.
Jason Kidd is owed $75,624,000 for the next 4 seasons, including $20M and $21M due on the last 2 years, for which it would be a HUGE gamble considering his age and recent injuries. I have a very hard time believing Les and CD would want to add that kind of payroll since TMac is gonna get $21M and Yao is gonna get like $15M or more. Chances happening: Not good. Grant Hill was one of the untouchables this Magic offseason, I don't see them dumping him for expiring contracts when he will be one himself next season. They've kept him too long to dump him for crap at the end. If they wanted to trade him, they could probably get a pretty good player for his $16M that would come off the books. Chances happening: Bad.
