ORLANDO -- Grant Hill will start practicing with the Magic next week, and could suit up for Orlando as soon as next month, the Orlando Sentinel reported Friday.

Hill has been sidelined for 14 months due to a severe ankle injury.

"I think next week we could see Grant, yes," Magic general manager John Gabriel told the Sentinel on Thursday. "I'd say four weeks of practice and then a handful of games."

You think he would be an improvement w/ the sorry team that they have now....

Oh, let him hobble down the court again, Mooch.

They could do a nikeesha sales tribute.

Aren't the Magic way out of the playoff picture? This move makes no sense to me, it is something you would do if you were gearing up for a run at the title. Why don't they trade some of their draft picks for rental players while they are at it?

    How's the attendance looking?

By the way - I'll believe it when I see it.

Anyone else notice how much life has sucked since Grant was injured back in 2000?

Not a big Grant fan, but still ...

He has had plenty of time to heal, they need to find out if he is going to hold up, and also, if he does well McGrady may want to stick around.

Good move to let him play....what is it gonna hurt?

Well he'll be good for 2 or 3 games before he gets hurt again. It doesn't matter whether those games are this season or next. It doesn't matter how healthy he is at the time he comes back. Hill will only get hurt again.

    It's sad.

It's gonna hurt plenty when they realize his ankle isn't strong enough yet and hius foot snaps off. McGrady is still undercontract, so he could show next season that McGrady should stick around. Better safe than sorry, especially since this has already happened more than once.

Hill cannot play more than 10 games b/c of some clause in insurance in which the team only has to pay a small percentage of his huge contract. If he is healthy enough, those ten or so games will be a big boost for the fans of Orlando ... not to mention T-Mac's intentions of staying with the Magic.

It would be nice to see Grant Hill healthy again. I would like to see how his game translates now into the modern game which includes zones and playing the second star role in Orlando.

I agree DaDa. People are so jaded, already making jokes about his foot coming off and guaranteeing he's not going to be healthy and it's going to fail. I'm glad Hill isn't rolling of and quitting on himself like some people are giving up on him. Hopefully his ankle holds up and he can play for a few more years. He definitely deserves that.

His ankle could be 100%. It wouldn't matter. He would still get a hurt again a short amount of time. He's just too injury prone.

if his ankle is 100% then isn't it just as good as anyone other player's ankle and just as susceptible to injury as every other ankle? I take it you're not a Grant Hill fan.

Actually I do like Grant Hill a lot. I wish he could play more. I wouldn't want to have to pay him to be on a team, because I don't believe he'll be able to play enough games to make it worthwhile. I do think he's extremely talented, and fun to watch when he does play. He seems like a good guy, who works hard. Sadly it just seems like he's too injury prone. If his ankle is 100% and doesn't get hurt, it will be something else. The guy just seems way too injury prone.

Grant, from my outsider perspective, is a classy guy. I wish good fortunes!

If Grant plays well for a handful of games at the end of the season a team like Atlanta or Denver might take a gamble on him... Hell, maybe even the Bobcats might take a look.

That said, those teams would probably be best not to. Much like Quitten, Hill was mislabeled as a superstar, despite the fact that he doesn't really make anyone around him better and just disrupts chemistry. If he ever tries to cut down McGrady like he did Jerry Stackhouse in Detroit, he'll be run out of town. Adding to all that, you never know how long that ankle will last.

they probably want Hill to play a few games and give Tmac something to hope for so he won't demand a trade this off season.
