Just wondering if you would do it? In my opinion it would work as Portland run the risk of losing Grant for nothing anyway and this way we get our hard-working forward we need. Portland get the ninth pick to draft Jamal Crawford who they are apparently very high on and will still be around at nine. Only problem is Grant who might not consider Houston a contender nor might we be able to offer him the cash he wants. Unless we sign him to a one year deal and then promise him more cash when Hakeem retires, like we will with Shandon. Any thoughts? ------------------
I personally think Grant is not worth a #9 pick. He hustles and can get boards, but does not match up well with big men. He has not developed into an offensive threat and has been injury prone. I would rather take my chances with a rookie like Moiso or Fizer (if he continues to drop). ------------------
Are you drunk SlamN ? So Brian Grant doesn't match up too well with Shaquille.. well to be fair, that's a little bit out of his size rang isn't it? If I recall he shut down Malone over a 7 game series last year? In fact it was his play that year that made him such a desirable commodity. Sure he hasn't got a complete offensive game, but he certainly scores in the post and hustles hard after offensive rebounds AND plays great help defense. There's nobody better than Brian Grant at number 9 in the draft this year. Sure he had a slow season, but he was injured and had no court time. As to whether he's injury prone or not, I'm not certain... if he is then I guess that's a reasonable enough reason not to take him - what good is a player who can't play! ------------------
This is really easy. I'd do that trade in a heartbeat. The 9th pick is an unproven player who may not be what you need. Grant is exactly what you need. He is a tough, defensvive minded power forward who is a monster on defense and rebounding. Not even mentioning his great hustle and a decent post-up game. Brian Grant for pick 9 would be a dream come true for the Rockets. However, I think his contract would cost too much and I also don't think the Blazers are dumb enough to make that deal. ------------------ Cheaters never win. Unless you play for LA that is.
If you are going to deal 9 get a guy who fits the Rocket Mold a little better or some one who isn't going to demand the entire Salary Cap for the next 3 years while he grabs some boards & plays a little defense. I think of better guys to give the kind of cash Grant will demand to. ------------------
Grant had a horrible year this year. He did not play well against anybody. I wasn't just referring to the Grant/Shaq matchup. His injury may have been the cause of the poor play. But he has had ample time to heal, so he may be damaged goods. He may turn out like LJ aka Grandmama. After the back injury LJ was never the same player. Plus he'll cost a fortune, so I rather go with a rookie at #9. I wouldn't mind Grant if we could trade current Rockets players or if we could straight up sign him. Since the Rockets are rebuilding, they need young players. A veteran role player isn't really what they need. ------------------
