Did any of y'all see this. The Grambling 1st year coach, after winning by 20, got in the face of PV's coach and they yelled at eachother. Then players from both sides were swinging. They some Grambling guys surrounded this PV guy and beat the crap out of him. Then a couple of Grambling guys took their helmets off and beat the PV guy with their helmets. Then the cops came down.

Man, that's crazy. Some guys were smiling too. Are they idiots? They are poorly representing their schools. And that Grambling coach must be crazy. How can coaches go crazy and not expect their players to go nuts too.

The NCAA is going to be harsh, in my opinion.

It was on Fox Sports on Sunday.

There was 65k+ at the game. Were any of you there?

You think that Prairie View is used to losing by now (have they still a consecutive losing streak going on? I thought they finally won a game a year or two ago).

But I don't blame them for getting into it - having someone in your face makes it tough to not do anything.

PV started out 2-0, thats unheard of. As for the fight I missed it. I've got lots of friends at PV and I know a few that went to the game so I'll find out what happened sooner or later. I think it just came down to egos and not wanting to be disrepected.

I heard this morning that it was because the PV coach thought the Grambling coach was trying to run up the score by throwing with about 40 seconds or so. This would be the exact opposite of what Kim said where the Grambling coach went after the PV coach. I didn't see it, so I don't know.

I've searched Yahoo!, ESPN, and Google with no luck. They mention the game but nothing about confrontation.

I know this thread has died a natural death, but I hate leaving loose ends.

SWAC Levies Sanctions For Prairie View - Grambling State Football Altercations
    By SWAC Office

The Southwestern Athletic Conference has suspended nine members of Grambling State University's football team and eight members of Prairie View A&M University's football team for their actions in the postgame fight Saturday, October 2, 2004 at the State Fair Classic in Dallas, TX.

Two assistant coaches, one from Grambling and one from Prairie View, will also be suspended for one game for their flagrant misconduct during the postgame altercation. Each head coach, Henry Frazier, III and Melvin Spears, will be reprimanded and fined for not showing the proper restraint in their conduct during the fight.

The players and assistant coaches have been suspended for one game each effectively immediately. The SWAC Office announced the suspensions to the respective institutions on Wednesday, October 6, 2004 stating that the individuals had violated the conference's Sportsmanlike Conduct Policy by engaging in flagrant misconduct as it relates to fighting.

All suspensions, reprimands and fines will be effective immediately. The suspensions will be enforced for games played on Saturday, October 9, 2004.

The incident was embarrassing and marred what had been an outstanding event. The SWAC Office encourages sporting behavior and adherence to the conference's Sportsmanlike Conduct Policy. We will continue to enforce the policies to ensure that everyone in our athletics programs act in a manner that brings credit to our member institutions, themselves, intercollegiate athletics and the conference.
