I think initially after the draft there was a lot of skepticism for GM Morey's picks. However, the acquiring of Landry seems to be a huge steal. Also, Brooks seems to have a bright future. He even acquired Luis Scola. In fact, we had the best rookies in the league this year. In hindsight, the man deserves an A+ for his decisions regarding selections, contracts are another thing. It's gonna be hard to top last year's result in this year's draft, but the man is certainly smart enough to do it. How do you think he's favoring for the draft? And what would you grade/re-grade Morey now that the season is over?
i give him an A not his fault Yao and Rafer's injuries cost us a place in the 2nd round of which we havent made for over a decade. next year we will be set, we'll be ready to give it both barrels. in the offseason i would imagine the wizard would pull a few more magic tricks, but even if he doesnt im satisfied with his work thus far.
why do people say aaron brooks has a bright future..... i dont see anything outside of mediocrity for his future. landry is a going to be a solid starter/bench player
Just a B? He "brought in" Scola (finished 3rd in ROY). Landry was a top 5-10 rookie. and Brooks has been making progress as evidenced by his numbers in April. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/4304/splits;_ylt=Ag6sLuR9dJV_PH1IIuv2IfOkvLYF All in All...who did a better job than our Rookie GM? in terms of acquiring rookies?
A+ Scola, Landry, Adelman (assuming he had input), getting Jackson for Mike James and helping the Rockets cap situation...
B Great move on Scola and Landry; Good move on Brooks and SF3; Bad move on trading for Mike James as well as trading Bonzi for Bobby Jackson...
I give Morey an "A" for stealing Scola and drafting AB & Landry. I give him an "F" for the flaming failures known as Steve Francis and Mike James. Overall, I give him a "B". This offseason, we need a new starting PG or (at a minimum) a competent backup that can push Rafer. The fact the Rockets go to pieces without Rafer is more a testimony on how bad our backups are than how good Rafer is. I don't expect us to have the same starting lineup next season. Assuming Tracy isn't traded, he, Scola and Yao are a given. One or both of Rafer and Shane will either be traded or come off the bench.
WAY too early to give this trade a grade yet. How Jackson's contract is used in the offseason plays a big part in how this trade will be viewed. That said, I can't see this trade as being "bad" even if we have BJax sit on the bench the next year. Talent wise, this was a lateral move that really has no defining impact on our team either way.
B on his first year. Scola good pickup even having to shoulder Butler's contract. Landry was a steal in the draft. Brooks I'm iffy about, we'll have to see. Getting rid of Mike James was brilliant and I was ok with Bonzi leaving because BJax was a necessity as backup PG. Plus I didn't want to resign Bonzi. Francis was a low risk move that might still pay off next year. Overall, good job on his part, the results however still led to a first round exit. We have needs to be and this summer will be very telling for him. For now he gets a B from me.
A+ BUT!!, the question is, can he keep it that way for next season, and the next, and the next, and the next. because CD did a good job some seasons and horrible in others.
yeah he will be and the question will be who is the first player to b**** and moan and not getting any minutes.
His moves, from best to worst Super moves: 1. Getting Scola 2. Drafting Landry Great moves: 3. NOT making knee-jerk moves when everybody did after the Gasol robbery 4. NOT selling Alston for cheap Good moves: 5. Drafting Brooks 6. Trading Bonzi and James for Jackson Questionable moves: 7. Trading Howard for James (trash for trash but James had some value) 8. Signing Francis (Didn't think it was a good move. We'll see if Steve has anything left in his tank) His did two super moves. But I think the most important thing is he didn't make moves under pressure. He didn't make any clearly bad moves. I give him an A.
I give DM a B+/A-. Scola, Landry, and Brooks were good moves. Mike James was a failure, but we got rid of the jinx known as Juwon Howard in that trade. I was never a fan of of signing Steve Francis, I get the feeling DM wasn't either, it was more of a Les move cause of the PR feelgood story to it. I can't imagine any calculation of Moneyball would result in signing Francis in order to make the team more efficient. If Francis was a math symbol he would be -. The trade for Bobby J didn't work out but we needed to do it as Aaron wasn't ready for backup minutes. So... Bright future comment = AI comparison Huh? And whoever said Brooks will be mediocre doesn't know how to judge young players as they go through growing pains. JL3 has shown he's mediocre when given minutes in his time as a Rocket, Brooks has shown he's a way better player then JL3.
I wonder if we could find some comparisons between how small, fast guards like Aaron have developed in the past. If the rule changes really do mean that the NBA will emphasize speed more than ever, then he is a real commodity. I think his defense and decision making were his weak points, but surely these can be improved upon as he gains more experience. Unless we can really upgrade, I would hold on to Brooks. I think there is something there.
