So Far I am not unimpressed I think he is doing pretty well BENCHING Carr was major for me. . . not because I hate Carr but I just think Carr needed someone to rattle his cage .. he too comfortable I am disappointed it took 5 games to get Dayne on the bench I worry about Half time adjustments. . . Teams seem to come out in the 3rd quarter and pound them . . . . then they try to adjust in the 4th but by then it is too late He is growing as a Coach . . . maybe the Vince Young of Coaching this year *snicker*grin* Rocket River
About benching Dayne from starting, etc. I've noticed that Lundy is anything but quick in picking up blitzes. I'm pretty sure that's one of the major reasons why we kept putting Dayne up there. He seems to pick up the blitzes very well and that might be a reason as to why Carr seemingly has better protection to throw the ball those first few games. With that said, I'm loving what Lundy is doing and am starting to get a little irritate at Carr's pocket presence. Rosenfels presence seems so much better, but it's a shame, because his accuracy is not even close to Carr's level. All those years of being hit silly really seemed to have hurt Carr's psychology when it comes to pressure. He's sensing pressure when there isn't any and doesn't notice it when it's coming. I've been defending Carr for so long, but lately, he just seems clueless when it comes to certain blitses. It seems that he's concentrating so hard on 1-2 receivers that he never had any idea of someone's coming at him or not. That could really hurt at away games because of crowd noise on offense. At any rate, in grading Kubiak, I'll still give him a B because there has been improvement shown in playcalling (most of the game) and in the defense. This team seems to be heading in the right direction, with a few major pieces loose.
Kubiak gets a pass from me for this year, that is not to say I don't want to see improvement in certain areas just that he was put in such a horrible situation from the start that it will be tough for him to scrape out many noticable victories. It may end up being a lot of smaller moral ones instead; benching DC was one of those. I liken his situation to a relief pitcher in baseball who is called into the game after the starter wlaks the bases loaded in a game your losing 5-0, so Kubiak comes in to what is pretty much the toughest situation. No matter how good you do your still stuck behind the eight ball for awhile. Gun to my head though, I will give him a B.
First year head coach, mediocre QB, recipe for disaster...I'm glad he had the balls to bench Carr as he needed it...Is Sage the answer, unfortunately no...He's no Romo , however, something needs to happen...I'm not talking talent, but leadership and get the team to rally against you...I don't think Carr excites people like that...
Kubiak inherited a giant mess. I still think he is the right man for the job, but cleaning house and rebuilding will take more then one season. The Texans are basically starting over as a franchise. The Capers/Casserly years were a complete waste.
To me it is not about wins and losses it is about how he handles things. . the adjustments How he handles the personell he does have Finally Movine Lundy into the line up was good Taking so long to do it. . not so good but I can understand giving a guy as much a chance as possible Benching Carr. . good Endorsing Carr . .not so good. . but Same reason as above I'm quite sure if i talked to Carr I'd come away impressed and thinking he is a Hell of a competitor . .but it ain't translating to the field I think the defense is not all world. . but it isn't the worse i have seen and honestly . .that is where i worried the most . . when you recruit and Offensive coordinator Rocket RIver
All you have to look at every one of his draft picks this year, has played and contributed towards the auspicious progress of this team. He has cut players, he's benched players ultimately benching Carr has to speak volumes in that locker room. Now definitely no one's job is safe. This is good, though. A desperate, wounded, angry animal fights harder than a comfortable one. Kuby in regard to getting the players respect has done a magnificent job in that order. Execution obviously lacking. Talent obviously lacking but, he is getting us somewhere and somewhere is better than no ******where which is where we were for at least the last 1 1/2 years prior. He has passion, intensity and has also brought in veterans via FA that CAN play and arent used to losing. IMO, that factor makes a big difference. This week will either be the true beginning of Carr's career or the beginning of a resounding halt effectively ending his career. If their is any damn leadership ability hidden in his body, Kuby will find it because he's going to be punching his buttons like crazy. That's what I love about Coach Kubiak. If he's an ******* to a player, he's the same ******* with EVERY player. Kuby gets an A for locker room presence and instilling passion and fight. He's actually getting players MAD and forcing better play though results have yet to show this (wins/losses) . B- for sometimes curious lack of execution, play calls and clock management B for doing what needs to be done, when it needs to be DONE. Like cutting a player or benching your starting QB. Capers never did this not once. Of course, Tony Banks wasnt much of a threat, more like comic relief. "Oh no, it can get WORSE?" LOL. Overall, B+. He needs another solid draft like this one before this team can REALLY start to take off. I think with everything he's had to deal with and attempt to fix, he's off to a good start.
I give him an overall B- I think he handled the Dominick Davis situation like an idiot...no need to NOT wait 6 weeks to find out if he could play. However, I think he has been great with Carr....and I see major improvement. He knows he is going nowhere this year.....I give him another year or two and then we will really know. DD
B Pluses- He is not afraid to make changes. He started Wali Lundy, saw that he struggled, so he let him watch for the bench a few games. Now look how Lundy is doing. He also got rid of Buchanon and benched Carr when needed. Minues- We are getting crushed in the 3rd quarter. He needs to get a better gameplan for the start of the 2nd half.
How do you blame that entirely on the coach? You have to give him at least more than one draft and FA period to fix things. So far he's doing alright ... ask me again next year though when this is more his team instead of the trash that he is forced to work with.

I'm fine with Kubiak. I still think he's the right guy for this team, but like others have said, it's going to take more than a year to right this ship which has a hole in the hull bigger than the one that sank the Titanic. I was scratching my head in the 4th quarter yesterday when we weren't running the no-huddle while trying to mount a comeback. It wasted too much time and we had been moving the ball all day. I felt like we could have won the game had we had better 4th quarter clock management. It's almost like we gave up too soon.
Yeah, that was weird at the end. It looked like they had not practiced a hurry up offense, or at least clock management.
WRONG. Once we tar and feather Carr, we'll be undefeated with Super Duper Sage, journeyman career backup!
