Im looking to purchase a GPS system for my car. I want it to be a portable one, not an in-dash model. What systems do you guys have? I have tried to look for a good comparison site but I am having problems. CNET's reviews seem dated and all other sites seem biased. The Garmin Nuvi 660 seems like the model for me, but the 700 dollar price tag is about 100 dollars more than Im looking to spend MAX. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated Important features to me: 1. Unit Verbally tells street name, not just distance to turn 2. Traffic integration seems nice, but not the most important feature 3. If it could store audio files, that would be nice ps the naked lady thing was to get you to look at this thread. it worked.
I did a lot of research before I bought my GPS on BF. I ended up with the MIO C310x. I just bought it because of the price and is easy to hack. It doesn't fit your need so don't bother with it. But honestly, Garmin 660 is a great system and you can get it at Costco for about 720. I know you said it's 100 bucks over your limit, but then again, you can easily return it later on whenever you want for the full price and wait for the newer models to arrive within the next 2-3 quarters. helpful post. What do you mean by easy to hack? Oink (the download site) seems to have all kinds of gps hacks. What kind of hacks can you perform?
Hacking is good because you are able to process whatever maps you want. Mio actually uses TeleAtlast whereas TomTom, Magellan, Garmin all use Navteq. I was able to use my friends TomTom software on my Mio. I personally hated it and went back to the original Mio software. It's just easier to personalize because it's Windows based. With this I was able to add an image viewer, games, paint. You can also edit POI's. Obviously, if you are willing to spend about 600 bucks on a GPS, you are definitely serious about it. I still think 660 is the best bet for you. But only from Costco!
Do you know the differences between the c550 and the nuvi 660? I know the screen is larger, but im not sure beyond that.

So either way, whatever GPS you chose, the job will get done! So the most important thing to remember is how comfortable you are using one of these; they can be distracting just sitting there on the dash. You should go to Frys and play around with them for a while.
