Social Security and Medicare should be “completely off the table” when it comes to debt ceiling negotiations, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said in a Sunday interview.

At the same time, the California Republican also called for “strengthening” those programs.

He'll say anything to save his own skin.

being a "leftie" means throwing temper tantrums on social media while voting to default on the us economy. Truly amazing how performative politics has destroyed this nation from both sides.

Back to politics 101, now he has to throw some meat to the extremists who wanted to cut SS and Medicaid. Those are great things to toy with and a great campaign strategy

I'm confused. Biden wouldn't let Congress see the budget they passed? Fox Viewers will actually believe this.

It isn't that they couldn't "see" it, it is that they couldn't make cuts in those areas. He is talking about where to look for cuts, not literally being unaware of what is in the budget.

You forgot to mention it needed democratic votes to pass....wouldn't have passed without GOP vote only.......

More dems voted for the bill than GOP lol

Freedom caucus is livid. They're going vote him out

Honestly, this shouldn't be a partisan issue. Each side gets to have its say on where the money is spent. But once it is promised, the money needs to be paid. If either side is upset about where the money goes (usuallyboth sides are unhappy about some of it), that is something to consider in future budget discussions.

Jesus christ. Mccarthy got absolutely fleeced. The deal is *WORST* than reported. I don't see how Mccarthy survives this. Seriously.

Earmarks in democratic districts? Jesus christ

This is the case against term limits. Give me a seasoned legislator that knows legislative procedure and how to get things done. For example, Joe Biden.

This is nonsensical. They had 149 GOP votes. They only needed 70 Dem votes to pass it.

Here's a look at Kevin McCarthy during the beginning of this manufactured fiasco:
    upload_2023-6-1_6-37-35.png

The GOP is the "we're going to kill us all with a grenade" party and the Democrats are the "we'll put the pin back in" party. McCarthy always knew that and had to pretend to want to kill us all to placate the crazies.

It’s a case against safe gerrymandered districts too. You need legislators who are more concerned about wider implications than placating narrow partisanship.

I will McCarthy credit for doing the right thing. I get why there are people on both sides that hate it. It is a classic DC compromise with neither side getting everything they want but enough in it to avert disaster.

I still find it amusing people still can not see through the charade and actually believed a crisis was 'adverted'.

The suspension of the debt ceiling cap until 2025 will have little impact on spending. All this prevents is the fickle sheep from being influenced over the debt ceiling in the 2024 elections. Your politicians played you all again in this 'bipartisan' deal.

Seems the deal was pretty par for the course, no?
These congress members need to stop acting like they don’t want to be there and start representing.
