NJ gov. takes state helicopter to son’s ballgame before dining with Iowans.

It's hard to believe that Christie sees nothing wrong with spending the taxpayer's money on that kind of thing.

Of course this is the same guy that wanted to fire a bunch of teachers while choosing to give huge raises to wealthy govt. officials.

Yeah, as much as every government from the local to the federal level needs to cut spending, there doesn't appear to be much willingness on the part of politicians to change their state-paid lifestyles. Also, think of the hundreds of different intelligence agencies we have (look it up - you know the CIA, and the FBI, and the ATF ... but there are many, many more) - all those people are driving cars paid for by the government, using computers paid for by the governments, and so forth.

It's ridiculous. Our tax dollars should be coming back to US in some form or another, not going to fund tens of thousands of cushy spy jobs or going to pay for a pilot and a helicopter to take some idiot to his kid's softball game.

I don't think it's a huge deal, though certainly won't help his flagging popularity among NJ'ites.

Tho maybe if he would eat fewer breakfast sausages the state wouldn't have to spend so much Jet-A to ferry his butt around.

Didn't the president take his wife to New York for dinner and a show aboard one the the taxpayer funder airplanes?

Don't many politicians tend to do this sort of stuff regardless of affiliation?

The point is that Presidents, governors, senators do this sort of thing all the time. President Obama, flew into New York for a date night. Is that good use of the taxpayer's money? No big deal to me, because Bush, Clinton and other have done similar things.

I don't think anyone has complained about his affiliation yet. And, it isn't his party that creates the irony, but his campaigning for spending cuts.

I don't worry much about these things. On the one hand, you could say that the helicopter is more efficient use of time, so he's able to work more for us, which justifies on the expense. On the other hand, I'd not so deluded to think he uses his time so wisely as all that that he couldn't have cut out some time-wasters in his day to give him extra time to drive to the game. I think his Farmville could have lasted an extra day without him. On the third hand, I think you need to give leadership some lattitude to have a personal life under conditions that are equitable to what a leader in the private sector would enjoy. I wouldn't want my governor taking the bus to a ballgame just because it was the most cost-effective mode of transportation.

You're right, it's not the same league. President is the majors...Gov is minors. But it is still the same game.

Jon Corzine (former NJ Gov) regularly used cars and it almost cost him his life in an accident...cause he was too dumb to wear his seatbelt. Maybe Christie is spooked, though I assume any car bearing him would have a lot of...momentum.

I think it's more of a hypocrisy thing with him. He's calling on shared sacrifice and vetoed spending on things that cost less than $1000 while he takes state helicopters to family baseball games then can't see why it will bother people

    More details:

He has to have a car pick him up and drive him 100 yards across a field? Really?

Then he got back in the car to drive back across the 100 yards? He left his all-important son's game in the 5th? Really?

I guess it's a good thing nobody in NJ had a serious injury that required air transport during those 5 innings. Or did they?
