(same as on the other forum but in the right spot this time) Since 75 hit on it in the thread about Langhi, but it should be painfully obvious by now that all roads to the ring go through Shaqdaddy. If you can't at least slow him down you ain't gonna win. (I love Stevie but if Iverson can't beat Shaq, Stevie can't either). There are 2 Baby Shaqs in this draft and if we have to trade all 3 #1's plus take on someones else's cap problem , we must get one of them. My choice would be Jop,the logical sucessor to Olajuwon's African Warrior legacy.Hakeem could probably be convinced to hang around as the kid's mentor and would be worth more money to the Rockets as a player/coach than they could pay him for just part-time minutes. Hakeem would not be where he is today if Moses Malone had not spent countless hours with him at Fonde. NBA drafts are not about help for next year, They are about who can eventually get your team to the ring. And face it Rockheads we are not getting a ring next year or the next year ,but, we might by June 2004 if the Second Coming of The Dream is on the team. ------------------ Losers always whine about playing their best, winners go home and **** the prom queen" -Sean Connery, "The Rock"
I agree about building for the future and finding someone to stop Shaq. ------------------ President of the (the Rockets first pick in the draft) fan club.
I still have Diop as the #1 overall pick. Perhaps CD's smoke about creating mis-matches rather than taking on Shaq was a calculated mis-direction. And all this huss and fuss about Gasol, the same. Since my first mock ( http://www.clutchcity.net/mockdraft.cfm?xMockID=960 ), I've had Diop the overall top pick. Would that the Rockets could get him. I don't know if I'd give up all 3 first round, but I would give up #13 and #23 plus Cato and Walt for local flavoring. If we took back Richmond for outside shooting and used him as a cap-creator down the road when maybe Francis' contract expires. ------------------ "How far you go in life depends on you being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak. THIS SHOULD BE OUR PRIORITY- You just don't get shots at guys like Diop or Brown. I would trade all 3 picks for the #1 and take whichever one Rudy and CD like best. If the #1 could be gotten this is the year to do it. This is one of those years when a Shaq, Hakeen, Robinson type is drafted. Which of these two will turn out (if either do) is a risk worth taking. ------------------
It appears from the other posts the Diop bandwagon is loading up. Say it with me brothers JOP JOP JOP! ------------------ Losers always whine about playing their best, winners go home and **** the prom queen" -Sean Connery, "The Rock"
If the Rockets move up to grab a center I don't think it should be Diop, I believe the pick would be Curry. Diop is said to be falling down the draft board and might not even be picked in the top 10. But then of course, what are the chances of the Rockets trading up and drafting a high school player? Who was the last guy the Rockets picked that wasn't a college senior? ------------------
There's always a FIRST time, isn't there? There was talk of Diop dropping but then people started working him out and all that changed. That was the way I perceived it. Anyone else? He is the proverbial man-child. Could be Daryl Dawkins or could be Shaq-like. That's why CD and Rudy get paid the big bucks. It is such a hoot; most of us have never seen these guys even play-- certainly the high-schoolers. I've never even seen Diop play myself. Heck of the top 10 prospects, I've seen a lot of Battier and after that I've seen Loren Woods about 3 times. That's it. ------------------ "How far you go in life depends on you being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak. I think we'll get Diop with one of Boston's picks and we'll trade them 13 and maybe Moochie' s rights. It will cost us, but they still get their 2 lotto picks and a free pg and we get a legit C. If we don't trade them then Seattle will surely pick him and keep him. It would benefit both teams well and we could pick up another 1/2 in Forte or Arenas with a later pick. This scenario is fairly reasonable, although I'd hate to lose Moochie. I wonder if that trade is even allowed? Anyone? 5-Diop/Cato 4-Webber or MoT/Collier(true PF)/KT 3-RJ or TMo or FA(Eddie Rob)/Langhi/ 2-Cat/Walt 1-Franchise/ Forte ------------------
18-Jason Collins 23-trade down and get TMo for Francis. Possibly a project, a decent C w'good J, a 3 Very possible ------------------
drpepper, For your comment about possibly trading Moochie, please never post on this site again. The thought of trading Moochie is too strong to conceive of for any fan of the man or the Rockets in general. May Clutch have mercy on your soul. ------------------ Mmm Queso.
It was gonna be "very costly" would you rather it be Cat? don't cry queso, go make a mock or whatever you do. ------------------
Sorry dp, perhaps my comments sounded harsh, but the thought of losing Moochie is too much to grasp. ------------------ Mmm Queso.
Reality is setting in. I have only seen Jop in jumpy internet highlights and I am now remembering how I thought Yinka Dare' was gonna be great. But I would still take him #13. But I would probably take Woods first if he were available. ------------------ Losers always whine about playing their best, winners go home and **** the prom queen" -Sean Connery, "The Rock"
THE ONLY THING THAT BOTHERS ME ABOUT WOODS IS THE PLATE AND 4 SCREWS IN HIS BACK. 13 IS TOO HIGH IMO. ------------------
