Well though I have cable and an HDTV...not all of my TV's get cable. So I decided to get two DV converters just in case. With the $40 coupon, It's worth it in case cable goes out or my kids want to watch broadcast on their TVs (they use it only for DVD's and such). Well I'm really impressed with the amount of stations and quality of the signal. Using the same antenna in my son's room, I was lucky to get the top networks and it looks like crap with snow such. Now with the simple converter box, all the channels look great and he's thrilled he gets the Qubo channel (24hr cartoons). Not to mention on screen menu also. I got the Zenith model at Circuit City....easy hookup. Got get yours because without it, you can kiss broadcast signal away on your older TV come February 09.
My sister-in-law still watches over-the-air television. She knows she's going to have to get a converter box before February, but I don't think she understands that there may be a benefit to going ahead and getting one now rather than waiting for the last minute like she does with everything else.
Yeah...the converter is $59 and the coupon is $40...so I paid the difference. I paid $42 for two. Even though ALL new TV's (HD or SD) will get the digital signal, ANY older one won't...even earlier HDTV's. So I would get them just as a back up. In fact my 50" Samsung HDTV is 3 years old...and actually don't know if it would get the Digital signal over the air.
