http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/11335/gordon-hayward-not-looking-back Has talent, the thing is he's kind of a tweener. What position will he actually play?
Draft Express recently did an article on him. If I recall, I think they placed him at SF. Due to his knack for shooting off of screens and basically utilizing screens very well. And contrary to his sub 30% shooting percentage behind the arc, Hayward actually has range. The low percentage is a byproduct of him having to create for himself and playing the role of primary scorer after not doing so the previous year. I think the main concern is defense, but the guys at DE noted that he had a high motor and never gave up on the play even when beaten. That's a bare bones summary, I recommend reading the entire article since its pretty interesting and contains a lot more than what I wrote.
Hope someone takes him in the top 10 for his "clutchness and leadership" and push one more big down to us.
Since I was layed up post surgery during the tourney I watched a lot of Hayward because I was pulling for Butler. Don't usually watch college ball. Hayward has a lot of fluidity to his game. He isn't overly fast or strong but he is very smooth. He seemed to be good at penetrating and the dishing off (at least he seemed to making the good pass). He will be a good shooter at the next level. I agree with the thoughts of where Hayward will struggle. But one thing I noticed about the guy is that he is still making plays all over the court in most areas of the game, even where he struggles. I don't see him being a bust but I see a tough couple of years for him while he matures in a physical sense. He does have height going for him.
Oh yea.... IMO he should go back to school despite his talent. He just needs to be the focal point of a team another year. He needs to be playing in real games.
Dude took Butler to the Championship game...........as a sophomore. Butler! He's got game. Don't know how good he is going to be but I'd draft him at 14 if he is still available and wouldn't think twice about it. I'd rather have him and trade Ariza with Jeffries for a big than I would to have to develop a rookie big that we need to be able to play next season in the rotation. Since we have a good 3-some at the 3 with Battier, Ariza, and Chase, we could afford to send out at least one of Ariza/Battier and not miss a beat. By the same token, Gordon has the potential to contribute immediately due to his bball iq and skill set. I would take him at 14 in a heartbeat.
This thread has once again proven my theory that if you quote an article with more than 3 paragraphs nobody on this bbs will read it.
