I've been having trouble with it as well, but I've been having trouble reaching quite a few sites. Who's your provider, COX? For like a week now, certain sites just won't load. I'll get a "blahblah.com can not be found try again" thing from firefox. Then I'll try later and it'll work.

 

I just used Google like 2 minutes ago. Must be your computer.

 

nope. it won't work for me either.

 

Ok, just tried it and it's down. Must be cause of the Derby.

 

It's back up.

Google shuts down for 15 minutes

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - Googling stopped for 15 minutes on Saturday.

The world's leading internet search engine shut down from 6:45 to 7 p.m. eastern time, according to Google spokesman David Krane.

"It was not a hacking or a security issue," said Krane. He said the problem was related to the DNS, or Domain Name System, though Krane did not elaborate. The DNS translates domain names for computers.

"Google's global properties were unavailable for a short period of time," Krane said. "We've remedied the problem and access to Google has been restored worldwide."

On Wednesday, the company, based in Mountain View, launched its Web Accelerator service. It's intended to speed access to Web pages by offering cached or compressed copies of sites from Google's servers.

There are an estimated 200 million Google searches a day.

 

I have been having trouble with Cox cable lately too. About every 15th site just does not load. Cox sucks, Road Runner seems so much better and faster.

 

I'm moving back to campus, hopefully I can get in on that Internet 2.

 

Google has been lousy for the last month or so, regardless of which ISP provider I use; Bellsouth, aol or my work.

 

Works fine for me. Google desktop is hit or miss though.
