With all the hate that Islam gets I wanted to start a thread listing the good that muslims have done. Let me start: They invented the parachute.
Abbas Ibn Firnas in 852 came up with what basically amounts to a parachute. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parachute
Ibn al-Nafis is most famous for being the first physician to describe the pulmonary circulation,[1] and the capillary[2] and coronary circulations,[3][4] which form the basis of the circulatory system, for which he is regarded as the father of circulatory physiology[5] and one of the greatest physiologists in history http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibn_al-Nafis
I don't know -- you couldn't jump off anything very high and survive with that thing, but it is the basic idea for a parachute. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ySssfiO1Xyg&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ySssfiO1Xyg&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> Da Vinci's actually worked when tested -- towards the end of that trailer you'll get a view of it prior to a drop from a hot air balloon with a person in the harness.
They gave us our number system. (Yes I know that Hindus invented it, but Arabs took it from them, and eventually Muslim Persians gave it to Europeans.)
By the way Islam was only invented in like 610AD or something like that.....so no fair taking credit for anything that was part of the middle eastern culture PRIOR to Islam. DD
