Man, is it just me or is there something SERIOUSLY wrong with your guards consistently out-rebounding your power forward. I look at the box scores every night and, sure, every once in a while Mo will get 7 or 8 boards. But, Francis and Mobley are getting the same amount on a night to night basis. I do like Mo's sweet shot, but if the dude can't rebound he's useless as a power forward - more like an overgrown small forward. Speaking of small forwards, Walt Williams also outrebounds Mo most nights. I remember last year he was whining about his contract on the Clippers and how he wanted to be a "max salary" guy. It's good that people are getting to see what this guy's really worth. Hopefully, the Rockets will see it, too, and opt to go after Chris Webber or some other free agent down the road, rather than committing long term big money to Mo Taylor. It would be a HUGE waste. I'd definitely sign him at a mid-level salary, though. Good scorer. Just entirely one-dimensional. ------------------
Mo can rebound. He'll never be great, but he can do ok. So many people disregard the fact that he is playing much less minutes this season than last, and that Rudy is using him so much on the perimeter that he doesn't have much of a chance to get any offensive boards. And consequently, when you have a good rebounding center and good rebounding guards, there aren't a whole lot on the defensive end. No one was making noise about the max except David Falk, which is what any agent would do- try and get his client the most money. Mo is not a max guy, and I feel confident he knows it. However, he is a very good PF in this league, and for 4-6 mil per season I definitely want him here long-term. ------------------ President of the Jason Collier fan club! I agree completely, Cat. Plus, once Mo learns to stay out of foul trouble, he should be able to stay in the game longer, and grab more boards. ------------------ 2000-2001 Rockets Game Formulas: End of 1st quarter: "They're playing so well!" 2nd: "What a great game!" 3rd: "Theres no way they can lose now!" 4th: "What the ******* **** happened?!!" Signing on mid-level contract sounds fair enough consider he knows his ability on the court, til' he discover his weakness and improve himself that's when he deserve to get more MOney! ------------------ Rudy T. will find and fulfill Rockets destiny.
Sure, we should keep him. Unless: "He won't settle for less than the max." This would be a Falk-type quote. Sure, we should keep him. Unless: Chris Webber wants to play here. In that case, bye-bye nice guy, hello business decision (and championships). ------------------
Mo had to get off to a slow start otherwise there would be nowhere to go but down. Now he's set up for a strong finish where he'll actually make us think six boards a night is good for a power forward and we'll be chomping at the bit to give him the max.But make no mistake about it Mo came to us excactly as advertised a sweet shooting big man who lacks the intensity to become a good rebounder.Definently not worth the max. ------------------ Mitch Meluskey...The real Slim Shady
If Webber comes here next year and if we can get a 3 in the draft (Morris) we would be instant Title Contenders. ------------------
How many of his rebounds are offensive? What % of his rebounds are offensive? And what % of the team's offensive rebs come from Mo? (I'm really asking - no sarcasm or any of that junk - I'm just too lazy myself to calculate it or look it up) I want an agressive PF. An agressive PF ought to be able to get as many rebounds in 24 minutes as a guard can in 40 anyway - offensive or defensive... He's supposed to spend less time trying to score himself, and spend more time focusing on getting possessions with rebs so the guards can score... ------------------ [This message has been edited by treeman (edited November 26, 2000).]
It would be nice if the PF can grab some rebounds, but I like the idea of a PF who can shoot from the perimeter and handle the ball. Because he plays on the perimeter, it's asking a lot for Taylor to also grab offensive rebounds. On the defensive end, I would like to see Cato or the future SF grab more rebounds. Taylor is not perfect, but I like his perimeter game. ------------------ Not only have the Drew bashers crossed the line, but they've sprinted a couple of miles beyond it.
Future small forward as in Dan Langhi or Gerald Wallace. I hope you are dreaming about Wallace. ------------------ Vice President of the Jason Collier fan club!
The guards need to stop crashing the defensive boards and let Mo go to work. I often see Francis and Mobley getting in the way of Mo, and grabbing the rebounds themselves. They should run down the court and get a fast break going, not grab defensive boards. ------------------ 2000-2001 Rockets Game Formulas: End of 1st quarter: "They're playing so well!" 2nd: "What a great game!" 3rd: "Theres no way they can lose now!" 4th: "What the ******* **** happened?!!" I wouldn't mind Langhi as the future SF for Houston, but he'll need to develop strength-wise. Another player I wouldn't mind seeing at the SF position is Croshere. ------------------ Not only have the Drew bashers crossed the line, but they've sprinted a couple of miles beyond it.
Lil Francis, how about we be happy with mo and he learns to consistently get a good number of boards and grab a nice sf in the draft. i doubt we will get c-webb. after all spree has assured us his people are working on getting webb on New York.
Maybe we'll trade for Kenyon Martin and play him at SF. ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Follow the rules or be assimilated. Shandon is underrated.
Pity Cato's contract wasn't only a two year deal ------------------ "It's incredible to see how he [Mobley] can beat his guy one-on-one every time. That is a tremendous talent. The combination of Steve and Cuttino, I think, is wonderful in the backcourt." --the Dream
Just sticking to the reb question, if he can get 4 offensive rebounds per night, then he's worth the money. If he can get only 6 defensive rebs, then he's not. Some mix of that would be acceptable. We need a banger. Bangers get offensive rebounds - they go after them. They do not sit there and 'accept' (def) rebounds that come their way - and then try to use that padding to demand a bigger contract... The man has the capability to do that. He has the weight/size. He also has the shooting touch of a guard. He's got so much potential - but if he doesn't USE IT ALL then he will LOSE IT ALL... ------------------
Mo is outrebounded by the guards because they get 40 minutes to his 24. (rough estimate, I know) He only played 27 minutes and got 4 boards last night. If you got a problem with Mo's production, you need to take it up with Rudy. ------------------ "We end up with Francis/Mobley isolations very often. More often, I'd say, then other teams." -- jamcracker
With the situation being what it is in Minnesota, I think McHale will probably be available soon. We could trade MO to the Clippers(wouldn't that chap his rear) for a future draft pick, and put McHale in at PF. Man, if only I were GM........ ------------------
