This guy speaks the truth about the media fabrication that is Kobe Bryant. Those of you who receive your information primarily from ESPN / SportsCenter highlights should particularly pay attention.

Is this guy delusional? Does he realize as much as kobe is hyped(and how are you not going to hype a guy who drops 35 ppg in a season, scores 81 in a game, his what, 7 game winners just last season?) Yea, like any player in cluding jordan, he has his flaws. Take game 7 last year, shots didn't fall, everyone says mj would never mess up on a clinch game like that. Well go back against seattle in the finals, game 6, they won it with jordan shooting 25 percent. We create these illusions and ignore that sometimes the shots don't fall. You can't deny the talent and skill level, even beyond the media, the nba players poll says kobe is the most skilled player there is.

Espn on the other hand scrutinizes him as much as I have seen any player. They bring out the per's and crunch stats to say that carmelo and kobe are not that clutch or great. Well, it over looks their tangible skill levels and why every player in the league would say that they are the hardest to guard and most capable offensive players. Shots may not always fall, but the players who goto battle with them fear them more than the guys with higher PERS and whatever else for a reason.

But this guy doesn't realize every day there is an article saying kobe is not that great and he shouldn't be shooting in clutch and he is a ball hog this and that on ESPN ?!

his opinion is about as credible as kb24pah lol

tho his old channel had great footage that disproved most of the lies that kobe fans made up to belittle jordan's accomplishments

Kobe is one of the top players in the league no way he is overrated. Same apply to Lebron, Wade, Durant etc etc.

Kobe haters gonna hate, Kobe wankers gonna wank!

The basic premise here is not that Kobe isn't a good player, but that he is overrated, and that is true. His numbers are all a figment of volume chucking and media hype. He has a reputation of being a great closer when he is anything but-- it's just that he takes so many shots that he is bound to hit some of them. He has a reputation as a great defender which hasn't been the case since about 2001. He is the most loved and hated player in the NBA and that is very valuable to the league, because they know that when Kobe is on the stage, the world will watch. That is fine, but it shouldn't influence his standing in basketball history.

Kobe == taller AI with better teammates.

Kobe definitely have better teammates than AI's. But even AI is 6'7, Kobe will still be a better player than AI.

One thing for sure, Kobe sure is lucky to have great teammates. Without Shaq and Gasol, Kobe will not win 5 rings but a great player like Kobe I believe he will still at least win one even without Shaq or Gasol.

Lebron haters said he choked and quit against the Celtics last playoffs. What they never realized was, Kobe with way better teammates needed 7 games to defeat the Celtics. Replaced Lebron with Kobe in last season Cavs, the Cavs will still lost to the Celtics in 6 games!

Kobe wouldn't have won squat without good bigs. But that isn't really his fault because there have been plenty of great players who never won squat.

Put Kobe on the Cavs last year and they don't even make the playoffs. You're seeing what kind of teammates LBJ had by this year's Cavs, and it ain't pretty. They are way worse than what Kobe had to deal with the year he went lotto.

While I can accept an argument that Kobe is overrated, calling him a taller AI with better teammates is quite a stretch. AI was a bad shooter, especially in the playoffs (40% in 70 games). Kobe (45% in 200 games) has been a better performer than AI.

    Edit:
And I can accept an argument that LeBron is better than Kobe right now. These things are subjective with many different metrics. That said, I'd take Kobe in the closing seconds of a game. And the "who's the best player" or "who's the best closer" argument is fluid. If you take sample stretches, there were times when Carmelo was THE BEST at last second shots. There was also a time period where T-Mac was the best player in the world (it wasn't with the Rockets). It's almost impossible to give a definitive who's better answer without some sort of parameters.

    True, but consider

    1) Better teammates means you have more open shots.
    2) Taller guys are going to have it a bit easier.

AI was a gifted scorer with horrible shot selection, which is what Kobe is.

One purpose is to weed out the people who understand basketball vs. those that just watch SportsCenter highlights and take it as gospel. I bet you didn't even listen to the video. He's not even bashing Kobe-- just talking about how the media has overrated him.

With 2 all stars, LeBron couldn't even win the same number of the games as last year. Great teammates don't matter for LeBron, coz he's capapble not make them scrubs.

A "healthy" Kobe Byrant didn't lead the same Lakers to 60 wins either.
Pinky and knees injuries don't matter for Kobe, coz he's capable not make his team sucks!

Thanks OP, I was actually expecting some good breakdown, but instead I got some rambling of a guy who doesn't know what the hell he is saying, with some "cab is here". And somewhere in the middle he started going off about Derrick Rose for some reason.

He didn't really make one clear point why Kobe is overated.

Anyways, All I can say I agree with is Kobe is not a consistently good defender, he's lazy and only plays D when he wants to, and those defensive 1st teams are pure bs.

In terms of his shooting, nobody says Kobe is all time great shooter like Allen and Reggie, but he is a good shooter in comparison to other well rounded players such as Iverson and Lebron.

And that no-improvement stuff he says is also really stupid. Kobe improved immensely throughout his career. We all know he put a lot of work into it and became an overall better player. This is why at his age he is still effective with his athleticism declining. If you want to talk about lack of improvements, it's people like Vince Carter and Tmac who slipped off after their freak athleticism are gone.

You can't penalize Kobe for being taller or having better teammates. That's adding personal bias to sample data. Sure, they could be explanatory reasons, but the descriptive stats are what they are. AI shot crappy and Kobe (with his horrible shot selection) shot better.

MJ was beast at 49% FG and 33ppg average for 179 playoff games.

And ANY player who has an integral role (as in a team's best or 2nd best player) in multiple championships deserves to be considered "great" imo.

i don't think kobe is overrated. there is a very small minority who thinks kobe is top 5 of all time when he's retired. but most believe he's a top 10 player of all time, which is legitimate.

his consistency, and resume speak for themselves.

it's just annoying when people think he's just as good as jordan when jordan is 5 miles ahead of kobe bryant. or think he's still the best player in the game today.

however, for his career, kobe has to be appreciated. he has outlasted every shooting guard who has come to take his spot (tmac, vince are the notables). it's hard to be at the top at his position and the game for as long as kobe has.

Winning 60 games wasn't a goal, it's bling bling in June that matter. Lakers won 3 of last 5 championships with under 60 wins. What's your point?

    Kobe delivered. LeBron didn't.
