Just want to get some opinions.. Got a pal who's lucky enough to be going to Houston for abit.. first time he's going, so could anyone give some advice as to which places would be good for shopping and stuff.. And MOST importantly, where could he find Rockets merchandise to buy for me?
Well, probably the number one place to go for the ultimate in Houston shopping is our very own Galleria, located at 610 & Westheimer. They have a couple of sports places that should carry Rocket gear. Houston also has many malls, which is the best, I don't know, I haven't been to one in a long time. I know the Compaq Center has a 'Rockets Shop' it may even be open during the day!? I would call the Compaq Center and ask.
Thanks Rock, yea I was wondering whether the Compaq shop would be open during the day... cos there might be a crowd during the games.. oh wait a minute.. then again, prob not..
The only place I've seen ANY Rockets stuff is at the Rockets shop in CC. VERY little at Academy -- just 3 clearance shirts at one I went to. Nothing at Target, which usually has lots of Rockets stuff. I miss the Rockets Shop in Memorial City Mall. Man, you could get all kinds of stuff there!!
Yes, finding Rockets gear is ridiculous. At Academy, they had ONE ****ty shirt. They had more Spurs and Mavs shirts than Rockets shirts. At Oshman's they had NONE. In the mall, I went to every freaking store and there wasn't a single shirt. Pretty damn pathetic. I could probably find a shirt for the freaking women's football team easier than a Rockets shirt.
First of all, he's probably not "lucky" to be going to Houston. As said before, the Galleria is good for clothes, but beware of the early Christmas shoppers. Plenty of good restaurants off Westheimer inside the loop. Nobody in Houston wears Rockets apparel anymore because their logo is totally outdated. They will change unis and colors next year, so save your money.
Ah Baqui, what a fine ambassador you are for our fair city. Another neat place to shop during the holidays is the stretch of West Gray between Shepherd and Waugh. Lots of great shops and places to eat. You can start at the Shepherd end with a pastry from Three Brothers and coffee from Starbucks, then work your way down. Birraporetti's will take care of lunch and you can catch a movie at the River Oaks Theatre. Best shop in the place is Allrecords. They have a fantastic jazz selection and the owner, Fred Allred, always makes fantastic recommendations. Plus, during the holidays, the palm trees lining the street are totally decked out with lights. Fun stuff.
