Anyone know of a good, kid-friendly restaurant? I live in Bellaire. I've heard that Lupe Tortilla's is supposed to be good, but the wait is awful. Any suggestions?

Actually, the funny thing is it was Chuck E. Cheese's, then Showbiz, then back to Chuck's.

I've always loathed the place, but that's where we're taking him for his b'day for lunch with his cousin's. Trying to find a good "Texas" dinner location.

    fatty.. was it really?

I didn't know that.. I was born in 83 so I might have missed the first stint at Chuck E Cheese's.....

I probably haven't been there since I was like 6, so I'm sure I would probably loathe the place if I'm ever forced to go back as a non child.

I'm trying to think of a good restaurant for kids.. I see the problem.. my first thought was. there are a million good places for kids...

then once I had to think about it.. I can't think of many!

If he is coming in from Memphis.. mexican food might be good..

Living in Nashville for school.. well I miss Tex Mex! (thank goodness I'll be back in texas sunday)

Yup, and the saaad part is I was too old for Chuck E's when it came out originally. I still remember knowing that ShowBiz was a rip-off of Chuck E's that bought them out. Funny you thought the opposite. (kinda like the Two Pesos/Taco Cabana thing, if you remember that.)

Why, back in my day, we didn't have these fancy kids restaurants... we had roller rinks! And We liked it!:D

fatty.. it is funny that we thought the exact opposite about which one was the rip off of the original :) I learn something new all the time...

and you reminded me of Taco Cabana which I miss here.. it seems every break I get from school I stop at Taco Cabana on the way home from the airport..

I agree with you on the roller rink thing.. I went to enough skating rink parties growing up.. but I suppose they aren't as "popular" now

Hey you're the kid that goes to Vanderbilt right? I'm writing a major paper for one of my professors that used to teach there...way before your time though...

Good school. You'll learn a thing or two about Southern Literature that's for sure.

twhy.. Yeah, I go to Vanderbilt and enjoy it. There are definitely some professors with southern expertise. One of my professors this semester is also a southern historian specifically so I do get a taste of that (which is fitting since it is in Tennessee). Good luck with your paper, hopefully the professor represents us well :)

wow, didn't know Chuck E's was Chuck E's before it was Showbiz Pizza (where a kid can be a kid).

they used to have a ski ball thing where they every time anyone played a game on any of the machines a little "jackpot" of tickets would increase by one. and whoever broke 400 would win that jackpot. the highest it would go was 200 and i won the 200 twice in one day.

now i really wanna play some ski ball (it's been so long). lets see if i can muster the nerve to stroll into Chuck E Cheese's during winter break as a 23 year old and school some kids at ski ball and take all their tickets.

maybe i'll just tell the kid next to me it's his lucky day as the tickets start spewing out and then run out joe namath style waiving my finger in the air.

Chuck E. Cheese threw me down on the ground and started playing my video game when i was like 7. I swear! I was playing this Ninja Turtles game and he came up and threw me down to the ground out of no where and started playing it! The stupid b*stard! He thought it was funny because he threw me down and started pointing with his little mouse hands. But I didn't see anyone else playing games on HIS tokens. I swear this is a true story.

they have it at dave & busters.... i blew 20 bucks on that game last time i was there... i walked away with a few hundred tickets though! Atleast playing it there you won't feel like a child molester cause there are plenty of other drunk 20 yr olds playing it at d&b.

The Chuck E Cheese across from Baybrook Mall (years ago) had a machine in the corner that had a loose cover on the ticket dispenser. I would get the corner booth, get my buddies to stand in front of me like they were watching me play, and take out a whole roll of tickets, which was about 500 at a time. I'd divide them up amongst the kids in my group, then wait for them to refill the machine. We did this at least a dozen times over several years, and no one ever noticed (or even bothered to fix the loose cover).

Oh man, this reminds me of when I went to a kids gaming place called, "Fun Factory". There was one game that dispensed tickets, but would allow you to pull extra tickets out of the machine. You just had to go slow and steady so that there was enough force to move the gears and move the tickets out, but not so much force as to rip them off the perforated edges. The game was also only one token, and I would get about 10 extra tickets each game. I did that one summer, and I was actually able to save up enough to get one of those big stuff animals that nobody ever gets.
