Well well well. Bud Selig had some ideas about baseball.
    1. Competitve Draft
-bottom 8 teams over last three years draft one player each from top 8 teams over last three years. top teams can protect 25 players.
    2. Allowing International players to enter the amateur draft.
    3. Not allowing college juniors to enter the amateur draft.
    4. Eliminating draft pick compensation for free agent losses.
    5. Allow draft pick trading.

Only one good idea out of these is draft pick trading. all other sports allow it.
also, that new draft would hurt teams like oakland who built their teams smartly, and would reward unfavorably teams like Baltimore who spent money stupidly.

It would make much more sense to have the lowest payrolls pick instead.

I like the non compensation for free agents though. Sox get to keep the picks owed to Cleveland for manny ramirez.

The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. And if someone asks me why i didn't get more meat, ill just say, "Oh, you mean this?" and pull out a big piece of meat from inside the blob of potatoes, where ive hidden it. Good magic trick, huh?

This does nothing but prolongs baseballs problem. ONce again baseball is afraid to really do anything that the players union wouldnt agree with. Nothing will solve baseballs problem except revenue sharing or some kind a salary cap.

I absolutely agree 100% with Rockets03. Baseball must have a salary cap to survive, but it will probably take a lockout/work stoppage of two years before the players will agree to it. Look for that to begin after the 2001 season is over.

Damn straight Rockets03. What the hell is that exactly supposed to do to help teams financially. It might create some parity but it sure as hell won't help stuggling teams turn a profit.

Besides, draft picks mean so little in baseball as compared to football or basketball because no player heads straight to the big leagues. And even if teams got picks, they won't be able to give them the huge signing bonuses being paid today until the salary structure is fixed. Arrrrghhh!

Good thing baseball has such a strong leader with a clear vision for the future. [IMG]

Tex the sad thing is that it will take a work stoppage to get everyones head out of their asses. Its just too bad that baseball cant afford yet another stike or lockout. The owners and players are too greedy and stupid to realize what needs to be done. I am not a big baseball fan. I kind of like the Yankees, but thats about it. But does Steinberner really think that he will keep on making money when there is no competition. Do players like Alex and Manny not realize that they will stop making their millions if there is a work stoppage? In my opinion Selig has done nothing to help the game of baseball lately. They need a new leader who has innovative ideas on how to make the league more competitive and also how every single team can turn a profit.

I totally agree with you Rockets03. It will take a severe work stoppage, i.e. losing more than one full season of baseball, to get the owners and players to compromise with each other. This is the end result of making a team owner (Bud Selig, owner of the Brewers) the commissioner of baseball.
