Now that the Mavericks have traded for Howard, the Rockets are among four teams that have the cap space this summer to sign Webber. I think we have a better chance then the other three.(Bulls, Detroit, Atlanta) The only other teams that have a chance are the Knicks(via trade for Rice or Houston and Camby), Lakers(via trade for Kobe if they do not win the championship), Orlando(via trade for Miller, Outlaw and others) and Sacramento. If we get in the playoffs I bet we get him. I would love to get Webber and keep Olajuwon for the exception. What a line up! Don't forget the great players we will get from the draft. Also the Knicks kept Houston and Camby so that they can try to trade them to the Kings for Webber this summer. That scares me a little. ------------------ President of the Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford,Larry Hughes, and Charles Woodson fan club.
LilFrancis, Don't worry about that one bit. Houston will be a free agent. The only way that trade could work is if Houston wanted to go to Sac. Without Webber the Kings fall apart. Why on earth would Houston want to go to a small town non-contending (and probably non- playoff) team in hte Kings? Answer: he won't. Don't worry about it. ------------------ "We're not settling for just getting in the playoffs." "We want a higher seed. There's no doubt. So its between Det, Sac, and Hou? That sounds too easy. I hope Im wrong though.Because Webber here would make us the 3rd best team in the West (Lakers, Blazers) ------------------ President of the Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford,Larry Hughes, and Charles Woodson fan club.
Will Washington have the space? They can buy out Strickland, but does he come off the cap? ------------------
me thinks Webber will not go back to Washington ------------------ CUT Tino These Heaves are just getting Ridiculous!

People have posted in some other threads about Phila. and Dallas. Philly could sign Webber (I think) if they don't re-sign Mutombo. Anyone remember what the salary cap is supposed to be next year? Real GM says $42.7 mil., but that doesn't seem right. Dallas could conceivably trade Juwan Howard or Bradley (sign&trade), but I doubt the Kings would do it. Washington may not have a shot at Webber, but trading Howard will bring them closer to the salary cap next year after they renounce Laettner. Something like 46, 47 million. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Relativist (edited February 22, 2001).]
Never. No way he goes to a team with the worst fan support in the league, and the team who traded him for a player on the tailend of his career. Chris doesnt have that short a memory. I think there is no chance at Detroit either. He said he has a good memory, and when he was on the blocks in Washington Motown didnt want him and he holds a grudge against them for that. ------------------
i think we will get cwebb in the offseason and either mo or dream stays..i also think we could be talking multiple titles if/when webber comes ------------------ How Sweet It Is! How Sweet It Is! Gene Peterson on the rockets winning the 1995 championship over the Orlando Magic
Damn Philly and Dallas have enough to sign him? And Dallas has his best friend (J Howard) Its not looking good so far. ------------------ President of the Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford,Larry Hughes, and Charles Woodson fan club.
lil francis, dallas's coach is don nelson..webber and him dont get along..plus they still have finley to take care of..no chance..since they already have dirk.. as for philly..if u can tell me one good player other than iverson..let me know..mutumbo would have to go in a sign and trade..like the wants to go to a non playoff team..same situation as ny really..we are the frontrunners..i think if we make the playoffs its a lock ------------------ How Sweet It Is! The Rockets would be the BEST team in the west if Webber signed and Hakeem stayed on board. ------------------ "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning how to put food on their family while being put to death."
Philly could IF they didn't re-sign Mutombo. Dallas does not have cap room. The only feasible way it could happen is in a trade, which is unlikely. As far as I'm concerned, it's between us, NY, and Orlando, and possibly Philly, if they're willing to give up people. No way Dallas could do it without breaking up their core (including losing Finley). That's assuming Webber would even want to go there. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Relativist (edited February 22, 2001).]
Webber probably has bad memories about Nellie, so don't worry about Dallas. And Dallas loves Nowitzki--rightly so--so who would they trade? Detroit also has no real chance. Bad memories. The Pistons chose Grant over Chris and lost both players in the process. I also don't think he'll go to New York, although New York's love affair with itself will have everyone convinced he wants to go THERE. Again, who would the team trade? Camby and whom? Hell, if Allan Houston opts out, he'll either stay in NY or return to Detroit (a team that has cap space but no one to spend it on; or did they surrender cap space with this Corliss Williamson trade?) Also, NY's acquiring of Mark Jackson is a good thing, I think, because New York is very close to being OLD. Rice, Jackson, LJ.... And Orlando lacks the contracts necessary to make the deal. If there's any worry, it's Webber finally choosing to go East because he doesn't want to face his Sacramento teammates four times a year in the West. Not that he's a chickens***, but he's close to them....but not so close as to stay there. Even then, I think his love of Steve and Cat (young and only getting better) and our organization will bring him here. Ya gotta believe. ------------------
I wouldn't write off New York or Orlando. If Webber wants to go there, Sacramento will likely take what they can get, rather than lose him for nothing. LJ's a little expensive, but he's still a good player and he has a declining contract. I think Sacramento could come away with a package of players they could live with, if they had to. Orlando will have cap room. Even if they don't have quite enough, I bet the Kings would take Bo Outlaw and a draft pick or two. Heck, they could even trade Grant Hill, if like Shaq, Webber was willing to come to Orlando simply for McGrady. Finally, the team we need to worry about most is Sacramento. I'm optimistic about Webber leaving, but players are very fickle, and despite recent speculation by the media, Sacramento will have the money, and a good playoff run will change everything. Period. Who's to say Sacramento can't win it all? ------------------ [This message has been edited by Relativist (edited February 22, 2001).]
I am just hoping that Walt and Cato can turn it up at this point and get their games going so they can generate some trade value in case it comes down to a sign and trade... because if they keep playing like they are, I don't know who we could offer for Webber... (Hey! My 500th post is about getting Webber... coincidence? I think not! It's an omen, baby!) ------------------ "Happiness is a journey, not a destination. After the trade today Dallas is out of it. Bradly is a FA, but that won't do it. He may want to play w/ his buddy, but he would have to take a pay cut and play c/pf. ------------------ "Chucky who? I thought we were talking about basketball?" Charles Barkley
If Juwan Howard or Michael Finley or someone else doesn't go, Dallas won't have enough room to sign Webber (unless he goes clinically insane and takes the league minimum). The only way Bradley could help his team get Webber is by willing to be shipped off in a sign&trade, because that lets Dallas go over the cap. And I wouldn't do it if I were Sacramento unless I could bring in a third team. Otherwise I'd be stuck with two centers, both making a lot of money. ------------------
