it looks like UT has the wide open track at vincent young as our number 2 suitor has some new news which virtually eliminates them from the race if he wants to play qb. http://msn.espn.go.com/ncf/news/2001/1225/1301020.html brock berlin, highly touted backup at florida is prepared to transfer to miami so in the end both UT and Miami make out well
old school, this is true, but miami was the number 2 competitor for his services everywhere i read heres a recruiting expert correspondent at espn answering a chat question about vincent dec 17th josh(College Station): Where is Vincent Young leaning to? Tom Lemming: (4:34 PM ET ) Right now I think he's leaning to Texas over Miami and LSU. i will admit florida state is probably in the mix, but this is a very good sign and also consider two things against fsu-rix their QB was a freshman this year and if baseball contracts the twinkies soon joe mauer may very well head to FSU and hes a blue chip qb himself, while at UT simms's last year is next fall and then vincent can have the job-until his soph year he could see tons of time at cb just so he plays. Plus we are in state and that means something to many recruits
I'm just going on what I heard Vincent Young say on ch 2 a couple of weeks ago. Then again, these recruits change their mind at a drop of a hat. OS
I heard, may not be new news though, Billy Don Malone decommitted from Texas in anticipation of us inking Young. That may or may not be good news depending on what Young decides to do.
smokey, thats good, i just thought i would post the berlin thing since it is good news for us indirectly
Young Is going to start for the West in the East vs West game. Its in San Antonio and if you can make it out there, go!
Not anymore. Berlin, one of the top quarterbacks in the country but stuck behind star sophomore Rex Grossman, will tell the public where he'll transfer "after the Rose Bowl." His mother, Nancy Berlin, told the Herald on Monday "he is leaning very heavily toward Miami. Per NCAA rules, he would have to sit out next season -- when Miami starter Ken Dorsey is a senior -- and could play out his last two seasons in 2003 and 2004. "He drove down to make his visit to Miami," Nancy Berlin said, "and I do know he's going to make his announcement after the Rose Bowl. He's leaning very heavily toward Miami. "It was either Texas Tech or Miami. That's all I can say."
Spurrier's got some balls to release Berlin to Miami. The decision could come back to haunt him. After last year's Sugar Bowl, Miami and Florida are not on the best terms and the schools start a series next year. Miami runs a pro style offense which would be to Berlin's benefit. I can see him putting up huge numbers like Kingsbury at Tech, but 1) Tech isn't on the national scene and 2) who was the last spread QB to have success in the NFL?...Berlin is better off at Miami. The only one I can think of is Couch. If Young does commit to UT, I hope GD revises his playbook. We need some option plays.
I've been following Young's recruitment since the summer, and he is tough to gauge. He has had a different list everytime he speaks. While UT has consistently been mentioned, and "appear" to be favorites, I'd say Young going to UT is not better than 50%. Nonetheless, UT seems to have the best shot at him. Best passing QB I've seen in HS. Oh ya, he also runs like a gazelle...
Also, Billy Don Malone...a highly touted QB prospect that commited to UT, just decommitted...probably cuz of the whole VY thing... Plus we have Mock and Nodgren(spelling?) as back ups. HEy Kidrock, how would you compare VY to Reggie McNeal, the Aggie recruit.? There is talk that they might use McNeal as a WR.
