I am making an effort to start managing my money better. Rather than reading FHM or Maxim while on the crapper I would like some reading material that would enlighten me. A friend suggested Money which is a good magazine for someone that has little knowlege about investing. Which magazines do you prefer or would suggest for a newbie.

I've always though kiplinger's did a pretty good job for the masses. I like valueline, but its not crapper reading...its more investment analysis reading...

I'll second IBD. Not that expensive, either.

    IBD is good
And for the "common man" SmartMoney and Kiplinger's.

I used to read IBD on a fairly consistent basis. I like their general philosophy on investing, but I gave up on trying to chase their stock picks. Their readership base is so large that their picks become a self-fulfilling prophecy. They pick something, it rockets north - almost always before you can log your trade. They drop something, same thing happens. To an average reader, he's late on both trades, causing him to lose money. That's my problem with IBD, but like I said, I really like their philosophy on investing in general.

When I read them regularly, I liked WSJ, Forbes and Barrons.

As a financial professional myself, I would recommend Kiplinger's.

Stay far, far away from Money. Those of us in the business call it financial p*rnography. Same goes for that dimwit Suze Orman.

IBD is a little heavy for newbies.

grummett typed 4 sentences in one post.

    Dang.

And I agree about Money... I used to subscribe, but let my subscription expire because I didn't think it was anywhere near as good a magazine as Kiplinger's.
