I need some suggestions for a good golf course in the Houston area for under $100. I'm going to be in H-town on business this weekend and was looking for a place to hit the links. One person already suggested to me the Tour 18 course, so any info on this course is also appreciated. Thanks a lot
Check out Battleground...it is near Deer Park and is a pretty good and wekk-kept course. Also check out Old Orchard in SW Houston...greens fee should be under $100.

Black Horse Champions Tour 18 Augusta Pines TPC Woodlands Bentwater Memorial Of course if you go to the webpage, this answers your question. http://www.blackhorsegolfclub.com/home.shtml If you need a great clubhouse, Agusta Pines has an awesome one, and its a great course, owned by Tour 18. Champions is the best in Houston and one of the top courses in the nation, yet it is private, so you'd need to know a member to get out there.
Houston Hills rocks! You can play for under $20. 59 South at Beltway 8. OK, maybe it doesn't rock so much.
MIDNIGHT GOLF!!! HACKBERRY--NICE AND COOL!! it's only a 9 hole, but it is super clean and night time golf is so much fun!
Gleannloch Farms. It is in by far the best condition of ANY public golf course around Houston. It was also listed as one of only two courses in the entire Southwest in Golf magazine as having the best "country club for a day" feel that is perfect for business. Stay away from Longwood, their greens are more pockmarked than Manuel Noriega's face. Up in Magnolia, Chance's new neck of the woods, High Meadow Ranch is a fun track, also in pretty good shape. I personally do not care for Houston National because of the layout, but a lot of the guys I play with say they like it and it is getting better. Cypresswood Tradition is a great course also.
Second on the Cypress Tradition - it would be long-ass drive for you though. I've played Tour 18, wasn't too impressed. I went out to Longwood recently and can vouch for the greens being crappy. Wildcat Golf Club (Highlands Course) is a fun course that is very atypical for Houston - lots of elevation changes, etc. It's reasonably close to you - you might be able to get a good twilight time. Oh, and if you are here during the week, Sharpstown is the best value at town for $15? to walk. Do not play it on the weekend though. The same goes for Memorial - it's not worth the trouble or wait to get on. Edit: Sorry, I reread your post - ignore the Sharpstown idea then. Windrose is another fun course to play.

Hopefully he learned something from his Dallas / Ft. Worth venture, the Creeks at Beechwood. We had a tournament there once and it was so difficult that not one person broke 100. The highest handicap in our group is 20 and there are several in the low teens. In fact, before it opened Greg Norman played it and shot an 82. The other architechs then begged him to make it easier which he did by cutting down some trees that edge the fairway making them slightly wider. The problem is when the grass is firm, which it is most of the time, any ball that is not hit perfectly straight continues to roll until something stops it, usually a tree in the rough. Due to it's difficulty, we have renamed it "The Creeks at B!tchwooood."
No way! I haven't even lived in Houston in the past two years, so I had no idea. It wasn't anything special anyway, just cheap. What are they doing with that land?
I've shot in the 80's at Meadowbrook Farms and I'm by no means a good, consistant player. Each hole is unique in it's own way. They just recently started building homes out there but they are only on one hole the last time I was out there. I'm playing out there this Monday and can't wait. I play the white tees and am not ashamed. Some guys refuse to play up and think they should play near or at the back tees. Then they spend the majority of their time looking in the trees for balls and shooting high 90's or worse.
