Are there good casinos or cardrooms in Louisiana other than the riverboat casinos along the Mississippi? Which ones are closest to the Texas-Louisiana border? Any clutchfans frequently go into Louisiana for some gambling and R&R? I think Louisiana has truck stops that offer video poker machines. But I don't recall seeing casinos around the border.
There's a poker room at Harrah's in Lake Charles...about 40 miles from the border. I think Coushatta has them too, but that's a little farther.
Harrah's in New Orleans was just like Vegas, but I am not sure how they handled the flood, it was right on the river. DD
Shreveport/Bossier City Louisiana have 5 riverboat casinos that are stationary on the Red River. You can check out the different casinos here: http://www.shreveport.com/business/index.html?sicid=742&mode=list&cn=Casinos
Are they open again after Hurricane Rita? I'm not sure. I went to Le Burge De Lock (sic) and was surprised to find out they don't have a poker room. It was a saturday night and all the tables were $25 minimum. I didn't even throw any dice the limits were so high... and I LOVE to gamble.
I've played poker at Isle of Capri, Harrah's, and Coushatta. The 3/6/12 hold'em players there are the worst in the world. Seriously... Even worse than your average .50/1 fish on partypoker.. Expect live straddles on nearly every pot. 7-8 people seeing each flop. People routinely coldcalling raises with stuff like 9,8 offsuit. If I remember correctly the rake was incredibly high, but the horrible players made up for it because the pots were so huge.
