My job has been relocated to Telephone road and 610 and I need some good lunch ideas. Frank's Grill is next to me but I need to try new stuff preferably delivery service cause I can't leave. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Gulfgate Mall area. No recommendations except it's not ghetto. You will find what you're looking for...burgers, BBQ, Chinese, Mexican, etc. etc.
try going to Tel-Wink grill on Telephone and Winkler. if you're going North on telephone from 610, it's a quarter mile on your left, right after the "bars and clubs" across from Chevron. that place is PACKED during lunch time. i used to live a couple blocks from there and drive by telephone and 610 almost every other day. there's plenty of place to eat in the gulfgate area.
You've got a lot of options. Kanomwan is kind of out of the way for you - Tlaquepaque Market - down by Lockwood. However, I'll recommend a few Mexican places: Ostioneria Puerto Vallarta on Griggs has fantastic lunch specials. Full plates of Mexican food and seafood for $4.95. Mambo Parrilla on Harrisburg and Wayside is also fantastic. Perhaps the best Mexican food in the city. As mentioned, Gulfgate has a ton of options. Dot's, Pappa's, Doneraki, and Boudreaux are all good. There is also Spanky's near the new Best Buy. They have pretty good pizzas.
I have some fond memories of Telephone Road growing up in Houston... Telephone Road (Steve Earle) My brother Jimmy, my other brother Jack Went off down to Houston and they never come back Mama wasn't gonna let her baby go yet But there ain't nobody hirin' back in Lafeyette I'm workin' all week for the Texaco check Sun beatin' down on the back of my neck Tried to save my money but Jimmy says no Says he's got a little honey on Telephone Road Chorus: Come on come on come on let's go This ain't Louisianna Your Mama won't know Come on come on come on let's go Everybody's rockin' out on Telephone Road Telephone Road is ten miles long Fifty car lots and a hundred honky-tonks Jukebox blastin' and the beer bottles ring Jimmy banging on a pinball machine Chorus Mama never told me about nothin' like this I guess Houston's 'bout a big as a city can get Sometimes I get lonesome for Lafeyette Someday I'm goin' home but I ain't ready yet Chorus
I've spent a lot of time getting my belly fat at Gulfgate. Pappas there is pretty good. Not sure about delivery tho. I don't know if many of those places deliver. It's better to just go there.
That is the best Pappas BBQ in town. I have fond memories of going there as a kid and being amazed at that balloon machine they had and banging on the juke box. Good times.
Telephone road at 610 is a rough mo fo. To super size on Telephone road means you want a fat crack ho instead of a skinny one.
I'll see your Steve Earle and raise you a Rodney Crowell (Native Houstonian) Telephone Road Rain came down in endless sheets of thunder Lightning bolts split pine trees down to the roots In the shadow of the Astrodome With a hurricane coming on strong We used to hit the streets and go swimming in our birthday suits Skiing in a bar ditch behind a moped 13 stitches on the corner of a sardine can We were dirt poor Houston kids Our whole family living on the skids But we always had a nickel for the coming of the ice cream man Mosquito truck blowing up DDT Barefoot heathens running wild and free Air raid buzzer at a noon-day scream Living in a dream On Telephone Road I used to love them cherry Cokes down at the Prince's Drive-In and the cheeseburgers tasted so good I like to come untied There's a Chinaberry tree I remember I used to climb in and out of my window The night I left was on the day before my Grandma died Sawdust spread out on a dance hall floor Jukebox ripping at an all-out roar Barmaid smiling at a 10 cent tip Living is a trip On Telephone Road Magnolia Garden bandstand on the very front row Johnny Cash Carl Perkins and The Killer putting on a show 6 years old and just barely off my daddy's knee When those rockabilly rebels Sent the Devil running right through me A drive-in movie in the trunk of my car One-eyed sailor in an ice house bar Spit-shine Charlie and ol' Peg-leg Bill Are dressed up fit to kill On Telephone Road Telephone Road, Telephone Road Brabecue and beer on ice A salty watermelon slice At the Little Taste of Paradise On Telephone Road
I updated that tune a little.... My brother Jimmy, I think he’s on crack Went off down to Houston and he never came back Mama wasn't gonna let her baby go yet But there ain't nobody hirin' back in Lafeyette I'm workin' all week for the Texaco check Sun beatin' down on the back of my neck Tried to save my money but Jimmy says no Says he's got a buy a couple hoochies on Telephone Road Chorus: Come on come on come on let's go This ain't Louisianna Your Mama won't know Ya spent yer last dolla on dope and a ho Everybody's slinging rock out on Telephone Road Telephone Road is ten miles long If you go down there you’ll get a dirty dong The sound of people busting caps is making your ears ring And Jimmy’s banging hoochies behind a coke machine Chorus Mama never told me about nothin' like this I guess Houston's 'bout a big as a city can get Sometimes I get lonesome for Lafeyette Someday I'm goin' home but I ain't ready yet
